Nice one Bruce!! Did you have to add much weight? I look forward to seeing it go:-) I told Aarron I wanted a prop for my tunnel to see if I can get a little more out of it- I will use that prop we got the best speed with but done by him. I gave him a crank so the prop will be a freebie kind of

Next club day I will ask around for a good used mod engine to get a bit more speed and then we can play around with my stock engine:-)

Hi Dion

I put tow bits of led up the front witch is about 400 grams and was a bit tail heavey then add some water to
it about 180ml still not right so add some more water 320 ml now will try again on weekend and see what happens
now and a bit of tune to come but was fun went ok

I did it just for fun but i think it will work will so glad i did it now a bit more work to go and should be fun
we put a zon26 stock. I needed to get more stearing so change the arms so got more turn now should
be better now

Hi everyone,
Thought I'd share my OB development which I have just resumed after my dilema with exhaust system.
Objective of the test with this old tunnel that was meant for the heavy 50cc chainsaw engine was to check out the steering system and the the new home made can exhaust and hull balancing.
Maiden run shows all that I wanted to see. The second run was better with the weight taken away from the nose. Unfortunately no vid as the cam girl was not ready and the hull flipped after only three laps.

gday fellas, i need some help, i have steering problems, boat pulls to the right as if it is suffering badly from prop walk, also doesnt like to turn left at all. i am running 2 hitec hsr 5995tg servo's.i have only been running them on life batteries (6.4v).i have ordered a lipo (7.4v).here is a couple of pics of my set up. please let me know if u see any wrong or other options. the insane hull has a long but narrow & not very deep servo box.

Hi Ozzie,
The first thing I would do is put the craft on a 100% flat table with the transom looking at you. I would look for accurate alignment of the lowers such as leaning or bent skeg. I would also look at the mounting position on the transom. There are cases where some degree of offset to the left may be necessary to counter prop torq.
Hence you do get a tunnel flying "crabbing" (nose slightly to the right but tracking straight). at full throttle. Just something for you to check if you haven't already done it.
The 7.4 lipo is good but need careful attention. BTW, I reckon the two steering servo should have a connecting linkage at the front side for better effectiveness. I only use one steering servo in the above video and intend to do the same in my freshly fabricated race proven tunnel especially for OB. Will get some pics and vids soon on the new hull.

ozzie, i ran an insane (p67 for pics). run lawless drive up 1/4 inch up and slight neg trim. 755hb servos by hitec. 2 blade prop.(prather 270 and abc 2714). no problems. turning with out hooking was a learning process. be patience. test,test,test

im new to tunnels but I see Mhz have 2 NXT drives available now one with clutch one without anyone tried either of these drives yet, got a spare QD25 on the shelf doing nothing may make a nice winter build ?.

thanks 4 the replies, i didnt relise when i posted those pics of servo box that they were older pics , i have since then linked the servos together which didnt make any difference to my steering issues . what i have worked out is leg is not mounted in center of hull. when i mounted the leg i mounted it in the middle of transom were it bolts on . which is not in the centre of actual hull. it has ended up 5mm to the left of centre. would the leg mounted to the left like this push the boat to the right.

I found out that after spray painting my boat almost wouldn't turn any more.
Sharpening the inner sponson edges made a hell of a difference then.

Hi Ozzie,
I don't have my Gas outboard anymore, but I had good results with Servo City 5:1 and programmed 5745mg 1/4 scale servo.
I think I might still have a spare Servo City gearbox setup and programmed 5745mg if your looking to try a different setup in your boat.
There are some pics of the setup I had on page 34 of this thread.

On my nitro outboards, I sometimes off-set the enigne on purpose for handling reasons. Some full scale outboards are also like this. I dont think the offset will have any noticeable effect on the steering.

Gday Brad, i am interested in that gearbox, if i can fit it in my servo box, i believe it would be a better setup. would u be able to let me know the dimensions, mostly just hieght (including the gear) & width of the gear.

After a bit of scrathing around I found it.
It's the version for a standard size servo. Not the 1/4 scale.

There are some dimensions on the website:

You can also see the dimensions for there 1/4 scale gearbox as well. They do require alot of room.

Gday Jim, are u still running an insane.i am still tryin to nut out steerin issues. i found quiet a bit of flex in my plastic steering arms on my servos, so just replaced with alluminium arms. also centering leg better , hopeully give it a run this weekend. thanks for your advise with setup. i have only ran the boat on a level setup. so keen to try 1/4 '' up. i must admitt your boat looks awesome on the water. i was talkin to a mate the other day about steer issues with these type of boats & he reckons that its not so much the turn that needs the high torque servo's, its the straighting up out of a turn that needs the torque(which may have something to do with hooking). this thread has died of quiet alot lately (shame)

yes it has died some. turning was an issue with my insane, I used epa to control how far or less it would turn. we run oval so it was easier to adjust.

I ran lawless as high as I could get it. tan 2714 mod abc and 270 MOD prather. sold my boat to a friend of mine and bought ypc hull. my son bought and ossi. tight turns at high speed will be a challenge with insane hull

Things have been very quiet here!! I got a new mod 26 for my ob just recently but still have to get a new prop to try before I swap to the new engine. I am keen to see what I can get out of the stock just playing with props fuel and needle. Lately I have been spending free time pulling reeds out of the lake and cleaning up the banks a bit. Gained a bit of space around the launch area now but it is slow going.

Glad to see the thread come up again.
Here is my OB tunnel to share with you guys.
Maiden run wasn't really good as there are quite a number of adjustment which need to be made before we see the full potential of this hull. This hull was fabricated from my race proven and race developed tunnel.
Really need to assess her performance before release to the market. Only one servo was used for the steering and the lowers attached was a 2brothers under the pioneer 29 with canister exhaust.
The hull was designed to lean into the turn which probably help the single servo operation turn the hull on a dime and more importantly listen to the input at the exit of the turn even on a full throttle.
Got a video of the maiden run but can't upload the pics yet till I have time to resize the pics on my new apple computer which I have yet to learn how to. lol.
