Default Hatori Header for Skymaster 60 needed...

A year or so ago there was a guy on "the bay" selling two Skymaster 60 headers (he also had two 20 size)...It happened to be during one of my broke moments and I could never afford to pick one up...They were advertised for a long time but finally they all sold... []

I was wondering if any of you guys might have picked them up?? If so do you wanna sell one?? If not could I get the dimensions from you so I could see if Karl Mueller can make me one...

Thanks for the help...

Chuck

Mmmm...

Chuck,

do you have the Skymaster 60 plans? The header dimensions might be inferred from there.

Hatori tended to give a serial number to the headers for each engine and specific MK model name. However, some of those headers, although serialized differently, had the same shape. For example, the Aurora 60 and Beetle 60 probably used the exact same "fuse side bottom" header. In the case of the Skymaster (was that you who picked up the built one on auction?), it looks to be a fairly regular "fuse top" header since the exhaust pipe runs "a la Prettner Magic". Wouldn't a fuse top header with no side angle put the pipe right were you need it? Perhaps you could use a Mac's header made for an OS 61 RF (i.e. one of your Hanno's... )

Just some thoughts, David.

Actually the Skymaster header is sorta odd...You are correct..the pipe is enclosed in the top of the fuse like the Magic (and Desire)...The offset is fairly large so I don't think a normal "fuse top" style header would work...I've attached a photo I found on Singapore Hobbies website...

Yes Sir I did get the Skymaster off "the bay"...I'm very excited!!

Your right I could get the dimensions off the print (duhhh..)...That's probably what I'll have to do and then check with Mr Muller to see if he can fab one for me...That may be the best plan....

Thanks...

Chuck

It's built from a wood kit...There are some differences between your's and this one....It would be nice to compare them side by side...

It's basically to the ARC stage of construction with some of the components already covered in the base color (white)...I'll wanna finish like the box...(Sorry Zubba but we'll have twins.. )

I was extremely fortunate to score a kit from flywilly last year around Christmas time...As you know I had been searching for one for quite a while...I didn't really want to build the original MK kit so I would have wound up buying wood and tracing all the parts...In reality I'm not sure when I would have found the time to actually do it...Maybe this will allow me to get one in the air... Here are some photos of RCU Member Zubba's Skymaster..

I actually saw this plane come up for sale in the RCU Marketplace a few years ago...I remember it was for sale for a great price (forget exactly how much)...I didn't really have the money at the time so I was a little slow to respond...It was gone within a short time (apparently Zubba had bought it)...

One day I happened upon a picture Zubba's Skymaster and contacted him about it...I explained my interest in the Skymaster and he was very kind to send me these pictures of his...Thanks Allot Zubba!!

Hopefully he won't mind me posting them here...

What a fine example of a MK Skymaster!!

August 7-9th...Yup I do plan to go..How about you??

My Dirty Birdy finally made it home last night from Las Vegas...It appears to have survived the trip alright...Now I need to fly some!! I have some trimming I needed to do which I noticed while out in Vegas...The wind never quits out there so I didn't bother working on trimming...I mainly just concentrated on dodging the ground...Been a while since I've flown so it was fun...

I hope I can get enough stick time in to muddle my way through my first contest without crashing!! he he

Yeah lets get your Skymaster fixed...Keep in touch and let me know when is good for you...My schedule is very flexible aside from normal working hours...So let me know when is convenient for you...

Have Fun...

Chuck

Hi Chuck,
Before I ship the Skystar stuff, let me check on a Hatori header for the Skymaster. Karl Mueller does GREAT work, he usually charges about $45-50, but the workmanship is excellent. He probably has the exhaust port/bolt dimensions for most rear exhaust 60s, but sending him a copy of the plans (just the engine section) might be the easiest approach. Email him and he'll let you know what he needs. Actually, I emailed him a week ago and haven't had a reply yet. I know he's going to Portugal to judge the 2009 FAI F3A tournament.

Thank You Will!!! I Really Appreciate it!! Your a Helluva Fella..

I also wanna thank Pete (rv7driver) for his help too!!

An update on my Skymaster:

I got the shipment from the seller via FedEx ground shipping this weekend!! Everything arrived in great shape!! This fellow Really took some extra pains in protecting this airplane from damage during shipping.

The plane looks great from a construction standpoint and I am very please. You never know what your going to get when you buy a second hand partially built (or better yet a "RTF") airplane but this one is pretty cherry. I'm thinking of shifting it wayyyy up on the building board. It appears to be right up to the finishing stage with some of the covering already done and looks really good.

So the building line-up will be: The Atlanta project (plus a couple of belly pans I owe some folks), Aurora 60 then Skymaster 60. I'm pretty excited..

Have Fun...

Chuck

P.S. Is there anyone else out there interested in doing the Skymaster? If so I could add molds of the fiberglass stuff to my "list of things to do". I know there were a few folks who got the drawings/templates for the Skymaster 60 but wasn't sure if anyone was considering scratch building one? If so P.M. me and I can put these parts on the list.

Sorry..I guess that probably sounded a little mis-leading...Although I would like to eventually do Aurora and Skymaster molds it will most likely be at a later date..

I'm anxious to get some of my planes in the air once I get the Atlanta molds done...For the most part all my stuff is on hold until I complete that project..

I wanna fly too.. he he

Have Fun...

Chuck
