RACJ,

I understand, totally!  That's why a watt meter is so important.  I would think that one of your flying
Pals would have a Watt meter that you could borrow.  Honestly, I would not recomment flying without
knowing the values of your power set-up

Mine came in yesterday.  Took pics of the surfaces dry-fitted.  This thing redefines the ARF.

Lane,

I know, that's why I called the Toledo a "SUPER ARF!"  With the raw wood cockpit interior,
consider how Paul (post 42) color-matched his Toledo's interior.  I forgot to explain that Paul
went to the Home Depot with the verticle tail and had the paint Dept. guy custom color-match
a pint of laytex paint for just $2.95.  What a great idea, and as you can see, the Toledo Blue
color is a perfect match!  I did the same thing for the Hangar 9 DeNight Special, that I am now
working on, and if you want to see another custom-color interior.....check this out;  (post #8)

I like that interior.  How's visibility with the cream-color?  I'm thinking about doing something similar to the one with the magenta checkerboard.

Lane,

The checkerboard pattern is great for total visibility and Paul did a fantastic job with it.
I think that I might do it to my Toledo, as the cream color tends to blend in on an
overcast day.

Hey Lane,

How is your build going?  did you get to do the checkerboard yet?

I haven't started yet actually.  I'm finishing up my Top Flite Cessna 182.  The 81" ARF they have out.  Should get started on the Toledo in another week or so.

No, just chimed in here and there on the already existing thread.  Here are some pics of the completed project.  I'm really impressed with the airplane.  Only thing I replaced was the nose-wire, I got a Robart strut for strength and the scale-look, everything else was high-quality hardware.

Didn't mean to upload that 1st one twice.  But it's got a Saito FA-100 Golden Knight spinning a Master Airscrew 13x8 3-bladed prop and brand new Futaba 7C 2.4 GHz system for guidance and a 4200mAh Hydrimax Rx battery.  I'm looking forward to the maiden.  Should be in the next week or so weather permitting.

Finally got to the Toledo Special...the Cessna maiden is outta the way.  This morning the Special was in the box...right now (about 6:00pm) all I need to do is mount the engine, make sure the wing tube is secure, balance it & fly.

I just won a Toledo Special in a raffle at our Rascal 110 fly-in. I'm going electric and I'm putting a Hyperion ZS3025-08 motor on the business end with an 80 amp ESC which should give plenty of power for 3D and I'll be running a 4S 4500 lipo. I fly giant scale so I'm not use to these small planes. This will be my second try at electric. The first try didn't turn out so well. Hope this time things go ok.

As far as cooling on electrics, the manual tells you to open the one hole on the cover plate for the battery and the three holes on the firewall. Is there any need to open anymore bays on the bottom of the fuse for cooling?

Zippi,

It's great that you won a Toledo and I think that you are going to enjoy it, as it really flies like a much
larger plane.  I would make an exit hole on the underside of the fusleage just in front of the tail wheel.
As you can see,  I did get a little overboard by cutting some louvers in the lower part of the cowl, but I
just wanted to be sure that I had enough incoming air.  Let us know how you liked flying your Toledo.

papajeff,

Thanks for the info. Holpefully I'll get my Hyperion ZS3025-08 motor, BEC, and UBEC by tomorrow. There are a few guys in our club that are running Outlaws with the Hyperion motor but with a lot higher KV and they are using the motor mount pictured that has a bearing in the middle to help support the shaft in the rear. The say it makes the engine last much longer and it runs a lot smoother. Thought I would try one.

Zippi,

What an interesting concept that motor mount is.  How about posting a few links and include the Outlaws.
For me, the Power 46 motor with the 14 X 7 APC  E prop and the E-flight 60A ESC were just perfect producing
51A and 805W for about 130w/lb.  Also,  my Toledo even survived the 3D session that JR's Devin McGrath put
it through at one of our events.  I am interested to see your set  up and it would be great to have you post your
results.

Here is a link to the Outlaw.

The motor mount I believe is made by a club memeber who is an engineer. The mount cost me $25.00 but it was well worth it.

papajeff,

The reason these fellows use this mount is because they are runing these Outlaws at speed of over 175 mph so to support the shaft at the rear of the motor is necessary to keep the motor together. For my application I probably didn't need it but it's just a neat setup and something you don't see. I think those fellows are running 9" props where I'll be running a 13" or 14" prop. Once I get everything together I'll post pics.

Zippi,

Now I'm with you, especially since I can see that the Outlaw is a plane and not a motor!  This makes your custom
motor mount a good idea for use with your Hyperion ZS3025-08 motor developing 1250 watts.  The built in bearing
motor mount should be a great benefit for the electric Outlaw's that are pushed to such high speeds.  For your
Toledo, it can't hurt to use it for additional motor shaft support.  I look forward to hearing about your progress
and your Toledo photos.

papajeff,

I picked up my servos yesterday at the LHS but no motor, or prop adaptor yet has hit the door. Tracking shows that it was processed in AZ but no other info at this time. May have to give them a call. It should have been here by now. I did get the servos and control rods hooked up. The control rod have the 90 degree bend in them but the length was way off for my Hitec servos so I had to cut and rebend the rods. About 30 min. worth of work. I also knocked out all eight blind nuts on the firewall. Just unwanted weight. I'll be running the servos's on 6v through the UBEC.

Zippi,

Lookin good!  I really can't remember if my control rods were the correct length.  Your use of the Hitec servos
compared to my use of the JR821's should not have made a difference in the length.  However, you did a nice
job.

papajeff,

Nice pics, looks like what I have setting on my bed . My motor and prop adaptor came in yesterday so I trial fitted my prop and found out that once the spinner backplate, prop, and prop washer is on I only have about 2 threads of the nut holding the prop on. When I ordeded the prop adaptor is said it would fit most standard spinners. I guess the Toledo Special is not standard. Not sure what the cure is here since I'm not that familiar with electric setups. I would guess if there is a longer prop adaptor I'll have to ordered another one. This is what I went through with my fisrt electric plane. Nothing seem to fit and everything seem to be trial and error. After buying a hand full of props I never did get it to fly to way I thought it should. I now know the length of bolts I need to mount the motor so I'm off to Rural King to find some 3" 8-32 socket head bolts.

Zippi,

My E-flight Power 46 came with it's own prop adapter and I had no problems attaching the spinner and
APC-E prop.   Most LHS have this style and Dubro has them also.  This style might be an option that
will work for you.

Looks like your motor uses the collet type prop adapter. Mine screws on the other end of the shaft. I got ahold of a buddy of mine that is really into electrics and he said he has a longer prop adaptor that he will swap me far. We are going to meet a the field tomorrow and get everything hooked up.

papajeff,

I always shoot a video of my planes. Here is a video of my new Aeroworks S2 Sport Cub.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuSHlJhlhBE&feature=youtube_gdata

I went to Imperial Fasteners to get my 3" socket head bolts that I needed to mount my motor. I'm working slow but I'm getting there.
