No problem, and please dont rush.

If you can post step by step mods you do, that is what I would be most interested in. Lost of before and after pics if possible.

Got my degree wheel today. I will not have any of these engines done by the race on the 26th so I will be running my stock 26. I have to have at least one done by Oct 15th. I will be going to North Carolina for a 3 day race at Diggers Dungeon and need a spare. I hope to start on one next week.

Is this the wheel you got?
http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.1353/.f

If so, I have that very same wheel, and I love it! I just wish that I had a proper rig to mount a pointing needle on, I have to ghetto it and use a string and fishing weight as a plumb and use the taught string as my pointer.

Since I am going to the Baja Challenge at Diggers Dungeon I need to put a spare engine together. So today I started practicing on a bad cylinder and do not like the burs I have and see it is something I am not going to get done or learn in a hurry. Coarse my poor old eyes and not being as steady as I use to be does not help. LOL Being I am leaving this Thursday for now I am just going to put a stock engine together as a spare and will pick up a few differeent burs when I get back and am not in such a hurry. I did get the CPI big bore pipe but since I do not have a engine to run it on right now I will leave it at home.

Good to see that you have not given up on this endeavor. Since it has been almost a month, I though you dropped this whole idea of porting you GP290 head.

Like I said last month, please be sure to post some pics, even of your attempts on your practice heads

No I am not going to give up just have been real busy trying to get up the money to go to Diggers Dungeon as well as getting everything ready and taking care of mother. I all so had a steering problem on my 5b SS that liked to run me crazy before I figured it out. I am not happy with the way the burs I have are cutting but do have an idea on what ones to get. I am all so trying to find a good speed to set my rotary tool on. I have to learn control as well. You can see where I nicked the plating. Here is a pictures of the work I am very dissatisfied with.

The nicks should not be a problem, the plate is meant to take those I would think.

As for the burrs, I say just keep on truckin' and cut down just a little short of where you want the port volume to be. Then, go to a finer bit to make smaller cuts, and then a sanding/smoothing bit to touch it up. And just like in nitros, you can always polish the port surfaces where you cut to eliminate the burrs.

I think you are doing okay so far.

BTW, this is my 10,000 post! (Halfway to where you are at now!)

One of the problems is I was trying to get in a hurry because of trying to get ready for Diggers Dungeon since I am driving 600 miles to race I want a spare engine. I ended up putting a stock engine together for now. I will say there is a little more to it then you would think. I do not want it to be polished or too smooth to get the turbulence for air fuel mixing.

So far, I see why I have not tried it. Way past any talent I may have. Have fun racing.
