Shuglu, sorry about the crash. Other than radio failure, the one thing that pops into my mind is elevator failure of some kind. I'm not sure how you had your elevators hooked up, but it is possible that one side came loose. Post crash was the elevator still connected?

His name doesn't appear in any obits in Illinois. It is a unique last name so it would be easy to find.

Just ran across this as I was doing some photo recon on the Zero again in preparation for my future build. Over 200 nice shots and walkarounds for your viewing and detailing pleasure.

http://svsm.org/gallery/a6m-zero-family

Some good pics of nomenclature and markings beginning at post #84

And another from my Ki-61 archive...I forgot that it had about 20 sets of walk arounds for Zeros too!

Okay, still plugging away on Zero#2. Final primer is on the wings, fuse and cowl with panel lines via Chartpak. The panel lines provide a nice effect, but it still needs some "depth", so instead of the usual glue dot rivets, I figured I'd try replicating the rivet indents molded into the fuselage. Using an 1/8" drill in a pinvise, I started with the wing. The intent was just to make a small divot in the primer coat...difficult and sometimes I'd break through to the glass/wood....but overall, I think the effect is going to be nice. I still need to final sand before paint, but this will be more of a scufffing to provide a surface the Nelson paint can bite into..and knick down the hard edges of the panel lines.

Here's a section of the wing....

The fuselage is actually a bit more consistent because of the harder-than primer polyester surface.

The downside is that it is VERY timeconsuming...and I've gotta take a break due to a blister on my pinvise-finger....ouch.

A Kiwi amongst us i see. We're just about to load our sea container for the journey down to Auckland from the UK. I would have been putting my newly rebuilt Zero in but sadly (or not depends how you look at it) its just the new kit i've now received that'll be going in. Hopefully with a new YT September Fury if i can get my hands on it in time. Did you get your Zero down there may i ask?. I'm just wondering for when i smash my new Zero to bits. Looking forward to some nice flying days in the sun.

Finally I finished painting canopy "dionysusbacchus" (Luke) made. I bought 2 canopies from him and this is great quality canopy.
Frame line and curve line of canopy is beautiful and realistic shape.
Cutting line matched to the fuselage perfect too.
I'm very happy with this canopy. Thanks for a great job "dionysusbacchus" !!!
First 2 pictures are new canopy.
Last picture is original canopy.
Look difference between 2nd and 3rd picture. 3rd pic (original canopy) bad shape.

ok finally back guys sorry for the long and abrupt absence from all of you .... long story but things are getting better (family work etc) any way I don't have much internet access so as a result I will be checking in from time to time as often as i can ........ In the mean time I have had a chance to read through my thread and its absolutly great some of the work I have seen you should all be proud very nice indeed !

As far as mine goes came to a screeching halt so maybe when things get a little better I can resume and finish her up . I have had to sell a large number of my rc stuff for the sake of making bills and other finacial resposibiltes so at a snail pace I will progress but be looking in on all of you in the meantime ....best of luck to all of you that still have the maiden left to do

god bless and see you all soon

Mike - SERIOUSLY glad to see you post...and welcome back. I haven't posted in a while myself, but have been making tons of progress on Zero#2. At this point, paint is complete and assembly is approx. 99% complete. Hoping to run the DLE-20 this weekend. Weight is coming in at almost exactly 17 lbs using 135mm for the balance point. Heavier than I hoped, but lighter than expected. I'll try to take some photos this weekend and post em up for you. Good luck to you and hopefully the sun is shining brightly over you.

Okay, here's the final finished airframe....I did some light weathering...unfortunately, the clear coat really made a lot of it disappear. Lesson learned....next time I'll weather it a bit more than I like and the clear coat should bring it back to "just right". Luke's canopy is sensational.....really made the final results super nice...thanks again Luke. Final all up weight is 17 1/2 pounds less fuel. The initial engine runs were with a 16x6 APC prop....I have a 17x6 and 18x6 on order and should be here by Friday. Even with the 16x6, the engine turns 9500-9600 and pulls really strong. The DLE is smooth running and I think I'm gonna really like this combo. Hopefully, first flight will be Sunday or Monday...

@tomandjan,

I think that motor is ok. This model can weight from 6.5 to 8.5 kg depending on setup. Because of that, I think that those retracts will not be suitable for that kind of weight.

Add these to your Robart, Esm, etc, air retracts in place of the air cyl. as good as the new Lado, more robust than E-flight.
