The Rossi carb was only 5.5mm diameter, pretty close to the FS-52. I did find it made full power compared to glow. I was going to insulate the Walbro from the engine to try to prevent it from getting hot. OS uses thick fiberglass gaskets to do that in the car versions of the four strokes.

Last time, I used a shut off valve on fuel line to help adjusting the big venturi carburator in my converted engine.

Greg, the engine looks great.

Greg, how are you powering the carb diaphragm? A "Tee" in the crankcase breather line? Looks good.

i don't think he is powering the pump diafram.
these walbro carbs work without the pulse line but you loose the pumping ability.

i am looking over this as i want to make a 4-stroke diesel lawnmower so run on pump diesel

The carb is pumped. I'm running the crankcase vent directly to the pump pressure port right now. I intend to modify the engine to the crankcase ventilation system used in the new FSa-56 and 81. You cane see the dirty (due to carbon in the crankcase) pressure line running from the carb at about 4 o'clock to the carb inlet.

I don't think this will work out in a lawnmower. The throttle and load is independent of speed making it virtually impossible to provide the correct ignition timing via compression.

Multifuel possible?? Got my ASP/Magum 52 4 strk back from Greg, I ran out of Davis ABC mix so running on plane fuel after one tank it picked up rpms from 7900 to 8500 12x6 and sure as it seats in revs will pick up, good transitions and idle. It had a diesel rattle that have just about disappeared on the 2nd tank (it was a new engine )
Now could this be a multi-fuel engine? Being the lavona cell is in the 1/4 -32 plug hole maybe a hot plug and FAI fuel would work (remember now high compression)
If such a stunt worked it would require a standard carb that was not restricted and when running diesel the restricter would be placed on the air intake just a thought martin
The idea occured after reading about the vari compression glow norvel 15

Yes, I think it can be done. I'll have to check the compression ratio on your engine, but I think you could run 80% methanol 20% oil with a glow plug. I would also have to make sure there is clearance for an F plug after the mods as it sticks into the chamber. If you get detonation, I think it could be fixed with an extra head gasket or two. I've been meaning to try it all summer and was trying to get methanol to make the fuel. I found a local source, but other projects got in the way. I just got home from work. I started a new job this week. It looks like they have plenty of work, including overtime, so there might not be much time for engine mods right now.

The plug clearance I already considered, a standard long hot might clear will take a look. It would be nice if it worked without the head gasket thing, I think Enya does that on their 4 strk diesel, the gasket thing It would be great if just a plug and fuel swap worked and snap on the restrictor for diesel, thats pretty instant, the best of all worlds will mess and see
martin
Can you imagine OS doing this, it would rock the 4 stock world (well maybe pebbles at least)

OS won't do it because the first thing that would happen when the engine made it stateside, somebody would fill the tank with 30% nitro and blow the bits out of the engine. Martin, the compression ratio is going to be high in your engine, the compression ratio jumps a bit when the lanova is substituted with a glow plug. Only actual testing will tell if it is acceptable.

Greg my work schedule is Sat ,Sun, Mon , so will try the FAI 0% nitro Tues. I have a hot short plug, and you are right , with the love of Nitro in USA, that would happen An other thought would be an adaptor that would screw in the plug hole then the plug in the adaptor to lower compression, that could be a problem with the plug igniting the charge, this in theory would almost be a precombustion chamber but may not work in glow martin

i think it's possible.
today i tryed citronella oil in it and it knocked a bit meaning it was dieseling, then when knocking i disconected the spark and it kept running.
if you override the govonor it will owrk.

Is this one possibility for the future production of model diesel 4 stroke?

Sure many engines could be diesels. I have an idea myself.

allow me to butt in and ask, if the fuel charge comes in through the top of the cyl head, how do the crank and bushings get lubed? (im more a 2 stroke nitro guy) i was talking to my lhs about a conversion and THEY didnt know.....

Model 4 strokes - either diesel or glow - get lubed by fuel blow-by thru the piston ring, which has a larger gap than normal.
