The plans call for a Q42 and up. Now I would not consider the Q42, but maybe a G62? I have flown the Meister FW and ME109 with a Q75 and they flew just fine. It looks like at first glance at the plans that the Corsair mat be a little lighter than the German birds. The cowl is about 10", so twins may be a problem. For the $, if a G62 will do it then thats where I'm going.

I have no doubt that a G62 would pull it fine if you can keep the weight down to 28# or less. I wouldn't consider anything smaller.

Plans call for 22-24#. My 190 called for 28# and came in at 35#, but I did have to add a lot of weight in the nose.

Carey, I have seen several meister corsairs fly down here in texas. They are great fliers and most are powering them with sachs or brison 4.2s. I think you outta use another q70 or something else in that size range. The miester is slightly bigger than a byron corsair and slightly heavier too. You might need that extra displacement. Anyway, take some pics when you start construction, Id like to see the progress.
Regards,
Evan Q.

Evan, can you tell me how well these engines fit inside the cowl. HP to weight ratio is excellent, price not that far out. Got an email from Dicky B tonight and he said it would weigh about 28 to 32# and a G62 would handle it. That guy makes me everytime I talk to him.

Chook, the Q75 fits ALL inside the cowl and with the rear exhaust, they are a snap with a B&B muffler. If there is a drawback to them it is power output. The Q75 is a reed plate engine, that keeps them from belching fuel and oil from the carb, but it is restrictive on the intake side. Here are some tach#s:Zinger22x8-14=6500, Pro Zinger 24x10=6600, Bolly 22x12=6900, Bolly 21x12-7400. Just for comparison on the same day a 4.2 Sachs spun a 22x12 Bolly7500. The Q75 is MORE fuel efficient though and rock solid dependable. They are a good choise for the big warbirds though because they are one of the last big mag engines out there and you need the weight WAY out in front. Evan & I have watched a few at Bomber Field and they fly well with the 75.

Chook,

I have had two Meister Corsairs, one was very simple and light. Bare bones, Mononcoted, no flaps, and a pilot bust. It had a G-62 in it and was lighter than my Quadra 52 powered Byron Corsair. Flew great and would have been fine with the Quadra 52 in it. A Quadra 42 would be pushing the lower end.

My other Meister was a lot heavier. It was scaled out with full cockpit, flaps, and fiberglassed. I had a Quadra 100 in it. It was almost twice the weight of the first one. I actually liked the way it flew better, the wind wouldn't knock it around as much.

A G62 or Quadra 75 will work great in it and will fit inside the cowl just fine.

Good Luck,
-Scott-

Hi Guys,

I am planning on going with glass, finished with latex paint. Cockpit and pilot, not sure about the flaps. All the other Meisters I have flown did not need them, but they sure looked nice. I am starting to lean towards the Q75 ($600), worked fine with FW. Sachs 4.2 is out at $700, Brison 4.2 is still an option at $505 but I know that carb is going to be hanging out there. Gotta finish that Ziroli XF4U-1 and an ME-110 first before I get to this along with some other projects. I will probably start this in December and have it ready by spring. Watch for pics on the 110 coming in June. :
