Heh, that's interesting...France and Russia in the lead.

I'm not saying anything, but remember the last Olympics and something about Ice Skating

I guess you have plenty time to practice flying, when you're not helping out the rest of the world to get rid of trash.

All tongue in cheek, of course,

Erich

Politics doesn't enter into the WAC actually. And even if they did.. TBLP would remove any bias.

Fact is.. they're just flying REALLY well. It's really hard to say they're kicking butt either. The scores posted thus far are from one program only, something they've had a lot of time to practice and prepare. Svetlana Kapanina and Sergei Rakmahnin are in fact flying EXTREMELY well, but we're talking about separations of .5 point per figure in most cases. It's just VERY tight.

Kirby Chamblisswas granted a re-fly of his Free program due to wind being out of limits, and he should have kept the 1st flight. Instead of being in 16th, he's in 25th going into Program 2 (Unknown #1).

Should have the complete results of Program 1 & 2 today.

Interesting sidenote.. David Martin has 2 Cap232's here at the WAC. One, his secondary airplane is on loan to several pilots, one of whom overstressed it during the Q. Then during the Free program, David apparently broke the aileron linkage on his primary airplane, and was forced the fly the backup (now repaired and inspected) until his #1 could be fixed.

Watch out for Chandy Clanton. This girl is DETERMINED. She only got her license 8 years ago, and is flying quite well for her 1st WAC. She flies an Edge 540 and is not afraid to pull/push hard. She will be a force in 2005 I predict.

From what I understand, the Russians took first for Mens and Womens.

The overall title is still up for grabs for the Men. It's basically done for the women. Svetlana can zero a figure in the next unknown and still win the women's title. She's just that good.

Current standings:

1. Sergei Rahkmanin Russia
2. Mikhail Mamistov Russia
3. Svetlana Kapanina Russia
4. Robert Armstrong USA
5. Viktor Chmal Independant
6. Jean-Michel Delorme France
7. Alexander Krotov Russia
8. Eddy Dussau France
9. Laurent Narjoux France
10. Vladimir Popov Russia
11. Michael Racy Independant
12. David Martin USA
15. Kirby Chambliss USA
19. Steve Andelin USA

Yep! She's truely a babe.
Now, if we can just get Hugh to sign her up for the Pet of the month, we'll be home and dry.

From the CIVA post;

Sergey Rakhmanin of the Aerobatic Team of Russia has become the new Overall World Aerobatic Champion becoming the winner of the Aresti Cup, aerobatics' most prestigious award.

The Men's Team of Russia also surged to first place in the team competition as well, taking home the Nesterov Trophy. They were followed by France in second place and the USA in third.

Following Rakhmanin in the overall results were Svetlana Kapanina in second place and Alexander Krotov in third. Svetlana also became the Women's World Aerobatic Champion --- repeating her victory in Burgos, Spain two years ago.

Full results will be published shortly.

-- Had lousy weather today. Hopefully, tomorrow holds better. Competition was delayed the last three days due to low cloud base. It usually heats up enough around 1130hrs. to get a lift. But, then they break from 1230-1400hrs. for lunch so they can open up the county roads.

If weather holds, we may see some four minute free's tomorrow - Friday. Then it's awards time and time for me to head back home to SUNNY Ohio.

I will add some final notes and photos when I get home.

Doug is correct, country politics does not play in the WAC but there is plenty of local 'politics' taking place. Kirby did not do himself a favor by his original refusal to fly during the 1st unknown and his protest and subsiquent second flight was not to his standard.

Debbie Rihn-Harvey was up high in the pack until she zeroed a snap roll that pushed her down the ladder.

If you get a chance, go to the CIVA site and take a look at the 1st unknown. A lot of pilots flew with two or three outs (60-90) point deductions on this sequence. Some are rumbling because pilots later in the flight rotation got to take an optional break in sequence due to low ceilings. This allowed them to re-position to the centerline and get figures 5,6,7 in the box. Previously, pilots were flying 5 & 6 at the left edge of the box causing 7 to be out. Most pilots started the figure inside the box so at least the figure was not normally zeroed.

All for now.
