That's the way I cg mine. As for the incidences' you could be right, but my fish is now flying pretty good so I will leave at is. Plus tired of tweaking the thing, time for me to move on to finishing the details. Thanks for the info, its good to know and have as a reference.

Status: offline 		The incidence is +4 degress for both wings. Article with the info is from an Aeromodeller of Feb.1966. Article and drawing are by G.A.G.Cox.
Fuselage damage you see in the photos is from attempted first flight. (Balanced at 5.118") Now balanced at  4.6".
I need to buy a new fuselage but cannot find one.

Pleased to report that the Swordfish flies great! After all the problems it flies like a dream. The Laser 180 glow is a perfect match for this airplane and flies it at a realistic speed. Very stable airplane, although a touch on the nose heavy side (4.6")  Will remove some of the nose weight before the next flight. Have ordered a new fuselage today-Many thanks FNQ Flyer. I contacted Austars Models and eventually found a new distributer here in Ontario!
Note that all the incidences are as the model comes and have not been modified. The fuselage and interplane struts determines these angles and as I mentioned before, they appear to be close to scale.
Probably because of the nose heavy condition, I had to put in a LOT of UP trim during the flight, but otherwise it flew very well. I think that landings will be a pleasure with this model.

Status: offline 		Still have to install flying wire's and torpedo. Have to do some touch up paint detail work. Used putty to alter each crewmans face before I painted them. Flying a Zenoah 38cc gas.

Status: offline 		Have to cut down the leg's for two of the crew before I glue them on. I have no Idea what the flying wire configuration is. The directions don't tell me much and I have never installed flying wire's before. Any input you all might have would be a big help. Hope to maiden her when the weather breaks. We have had snow here in West Virginia for the past three months. Will post a flight report when I maiden her. Tony.

Status: offline 		Greetings - I purchased an ESM Swordfish that was partially built recently. This is only my second ARF build, so I am not very good at modifying the manual instructions. 

The manual does not explain how to connect the upper wings to the mid-wing portion. It does show how to connect the two bottom wings to the center-wing - by drilling two holes through the wings and through the wing tube. The lower wings are then connected to the wing tube by two bolts and washers. 

But I cannot find how to connect the upper wings to the mid-wing piece. The upper wing is connected by two fibre wing joiner. However, when I start the engine, an MT 35, the vibration causes the two upper wings to spread apart from the mid-wing portion since there is nothing holding them together.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Status: offline 		If I understand you correctly, this is what I do. It's safer to epoxy the two wing section's together. It may be harder to transport but your wing's won't come apart. The flying wire's are also important to use. They are a functional part of the wing not just for show. Hope this help's. A really good person to advise you on these ARF's is Ty at Ty'splanes.com. I have called and talked to him. You will find he is an upstanding guy who knows his stuff and he also make's some great Add on part's . I got the torpedo upgrade kit from him and the cockpit kit for the Swordfish, not to mention a bunch of other goody's for my other ESM plane's. Tony.

Status: offline 		After reading my post to you I realized I should have said "epoxy the two wing sections to the mid wing section. This, and the bolt holding the mid wing section onto the wire tripod will keep the top wing on. Use enough epoxy  to do the job but don't over do it [ more is not better ] , then clean up the overflow with a towel or rag dipped in alcohol. Stand the wing ON END OVERNIGHT. Don't forget, use those flying wire's. Tony.

Status: offline 		I did not glue the wing tube in to the wing at all mine is totally removable. I did glue the wing spars into the outer upper wings. You need to have the plane put together when you glue the upper spars in so it get the correct angles. The was a little play in my spar slots prior to gluing... I keep my outer wing panels as one piece all the time. You can transport then this way. The flying wires are functional on this plane. They keep the wing square. I did not drill holes and put screws to hold the spare in place. I use small zip ties on the lower struts and I made hard points on the top to do the same. It make the plane go together in just a couple minutes...

Status: offline 		One of the upper wings fell in the garage. Luckily, no damage at all to the wing; however, one of the flying wires snapped. I then used a black elastic cord to replace it. I had to to the same on the other ing. Esthetically, it looks better than before, but I suspect that it may not be doing the job of keeping the wing square or attached.

Fockewulf37 - any chance of seeing a photo of the zip ties on the lower struts and hard points on the bottom and top?

It is a nice plane but mine is grounded until I can fix the wing problem.

Status: offline 		You need to use coated leader wire and make true flying wires. The wires cannot stretch or the wing will get out of shape.

Status: offline 		Hi! guys, 1st name is Jim (handle is Bipe me II)  I'm new to forums but have been into R/C modeling for quite a while I live about an 1 hour drive North from Sarasota.
My primary interest is WWI thru Golden Age. IMAA 40-60cc gas with some 4-stroke .91-1.20, and 2/stroke Moki's
I have recently taken an interest in stand-off scale ARF detailng. Specically the ESM Swordfish, It has to be one of the best currently out there. (wish i had been active when the Storch was avialable) I just seen  a 1/3rd scale Vogalsang with a welded aluminum fuse, and electric power (wow) it was at our Golden Age fli-in The fellow that has it also has a Vogalsany Cub with electric power.
I've read this forum post and have several questions mostly about the sourcing of accessories it appears Ty is primiary on these, but I don't know how to find the catalog?
For some (hopefully) positve input I have the In Action book on the String bag. It's an excellent source for documention (examples ) there's 93 period photos 10 color profiles (not the ESM livery though)
One decnt 3-view (panel lines & rivets is about all of real details on it)  but between the photos and a bunch of line drawing there's a lot of excellent details from the pilots step to the radar pod complete with wing strut antenna, fabric patches aft of the gunner, bombs, rockets etc. some of which have photo and line drawing. The book is avialable on line from several different source from $10.95 to $12.95 some pay shipping. i have used these books for years and they are all excellent sources and provide a good concise history of the A/C .
Another tip for Florida residents or someone visiting.  Troy built says on their website that they can't service walk-ins, but if you prepay (credit card0 you can pick up at the Venice warehouse. The reason I mention this is their stated S&H on the String bean is $120, you will still have to pay Florida sales tax of 7 but that's still a decent savings%. When I called about kit and accessories the fellow I spoke with told me their accessories for the Swordfish was limited to pilots, and that the guns etc. listed on their site aren't avialable. RThat's one of the reasons I've joined the forum the other significant one is the sharing of knowledge.

Hey! Ty how do I buy what you're selling and is there a catalog on line?  I'll probaly want everything!

Status: offline 		Mine will be ready to fly today. I have shaved off all possible weight from the Cg and aft on the bodey and setup. Servoes are moved forward and with the Laser 240 V-Twin it seems like it balances exactly at 5" from upper wing leading edge with empty tank.

As I have read I can see that people are experiencing different flying charachteristic on the same CG.

Is 5" ok or should I move forward to 4" as a start?

Status: offline 		Made my maiden today. All possible weight are removed from CG and aft of the aircraft and the servoes, batteries and other equipment are moved forward of CG.
With the Laser 240 V Twin (1400g) and full tank it was exactly on the recommended 130mm.

I will add pilots and full cockpit and added 200 gram lead inside the cowling. The maiden flight was made at approx 12cm+

It flew very good, no tailheavy at all. Only got one flight today before it started raining but I thing the Cg will be perfect when the full cockpit, torpedo and pilots are installed.
So will fly it until I am totally confortable with it and the make the remaing details when it even gets colder here in norway.

Missing wires, hatches, cockpit and some detailwork
