I BOUGHT SEVERAL VINTAGE IGNITION ENGINES.COIL.CONDENCER.ECT..ECT..ONE IS ROGERS ENGINE NO POINTS SYSTEM IT HAS A SYNCRO PICK UP..THE OTHER IS A VICTOR ROCKET POINTS SYSTEM MOTOR ...THE FUEL IM USING IS COLEMAN CAMPING FUEL 3:1 FUEL MIX WELL I'VE TRIED SEVERAL FUEL MIXES WITH NO LUCK TIMING I'VE HAD ALL OVER THE BOARD WITH NO LUCK THE PLUGS THAT CAME WITH THE MOTORS ARE CHAMPION V2 AND VR-2 PLUGS I CAN GET IT TO HIT EVER NOW AND THEN BUT NOT RUN THE VICTOR MOTOR HAS SUPER COMPRESSION SO I KNOW THAT ISN'T THE PROBLEM ..I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD USE GLOW FUEL WITH THE IGNITION SYSTEM BUT I REMEMBERED READING THAT GLOW FUEL WOULD MELT THE PLASTIC TANK SO I HAVEN'T TRIED THAT YET...ANOTHER DUMB QUESTION ...DOES IT MATTER WHICH WAY YOU SPIN THE ENGINE WILL IT RUN EITHER DIRECTION IF TIMED RIGHT...ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATFUL BEFORE I THROW THESE THANGS IN THE DAMN ROAD ...DAVE

Have you tried what you burn in your WEED Wacker I used gas and 60w engine oil The newer 2st oil should make them think they are something special

The early engines that were run on glow were not strong enough and could split crankcases. Stronger parts was on evolution engines had to make when glow came around. I think Colman and 70wt was standard.

I HAVE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THE REASON THESE ENGINES WON'T RUN IS THEIR JUST WORE-OUT THEY JUST DON'T HAVE ENOUGH COMPRESSION TO RUN I JUST GOT RIPPED ON E-BAY I GUESS IM GOING TO TRY ONE-MORE THING I READ A COUPLE OF POST ON RUNNING METHANOL 3:1 WITH 70W ....SO I'LL GIVE THIS A TRY ..OH AND I TRIED THE GLOW FUEL AND IT EAT MY DAMN TANK ....SO THAT STATEMENT WAS TRUE .....ONE MORE QUESTION IN THE EVENT I CAN'T GET THESE ENGINES TO RUN IS THEIR ANYONE YOU COULD SEND A VINTAGE MODEL ENGINE TO AND HAVE THEM REBUILD IT NEW PISTON & SLEVE ....AGAIN THANKS FOR THE INPUT FELLERS AND WISH ME LUCK ON TRYING THIS METHANOL AN DON'T BLOW THE GARAGE UP ....DAVE....OUT...............................................

Perhaps your fuel is not right. those old engines required 3 to 1 mixture of white gas and SAE70 oil. You can use the Coleman gas just fine, but you might have trouble finding some SAE 70 oil. I used Valvoline SAE70 in the old days and still have a bit left over...

I run my Brown Jr on Coleman 3 to 1 with 70wt. 70wt is easy to get and any Harley Davidson dealer. You have to ask for it, most keep in the back not up front with the Yuppie oils.

Several things may be going on and I suspect fuel is not your problem. First forget the glow fuel unless you install a glow plug. Yes some old ignition engines will be ok on glow. I run my old Dennymite on glow and it works great, I use it simply because I am missing the breaker points.

Are you aware of the proper direction to move the spark advance arm to retard and what position are using in an attempt to start?

Have you installed a condenser?

Only use two alkalyne batterys of 1.5 volt each and do not recharge. Any higher voltage will ruin those old paper wound coils. D

Do not use any 1.2 volt cells as this will provide only a very weak spark.

Last what are you using for a coil and what is its condition?

THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS AWESOME SET UP Y GOT THEIR JUST WHAT I  WANT ......WELL YES AND NO ON THE CONDESOR I DIDN'T THINK Y HAD TO HAVE ONE JUST TO RUN THE ENGINE I THOUGHT IT WAS TO STOP BACK-FEED ENTERFERANCE WITH RADIO EQUIPMENT ,BUT I DO HAVE ONE I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S ANY GOOD THOUGH .WILL ANY CONDENSOR WORK SAY ,LIKE ONE OUT OF AN OLD FORD OR LAWNMOWER??..OH AND ANOTHER QUESTION DOES IT MATTER AT WHAT OR WHICH POSITION YOU MOUNT THE PROP ..SAY WITH THE CRANK/PISTON IN LINE WITH THE PISTON OR AT SAY 3'OCLOCK WITH PISTON AT TOP DEAD CENTER .........AS FAR AS FUEL GOES I GOT SOME 99.9% PURE METHANOL AND 60W OIL IM GOING TO TRY IF THIS DON'T WORK THEN I GUESS THESE ENGINES ARE WOREOUT..AGAIN I THINK I ASKED ONCE BEFORE IS THEIR ANYONE Y COULD SEND THSE VINTAGE ENGINES TO FOR A OVER HAUL THANKS DAVE.........
