Default Switching to 2C oil?

Do Ihave official clearance from the titanium turbine mecca to run 2C oil instead of turbine oil? Is there any service life or perfomance penalty? Do you use the same mix ratio? Ihave run the mil spec turbine oil up until now and Iwould like to switch for a couple reasons: cost, availability, toxicity. If there is any recommendation to the contrary I will of course stay with turbine oil.

Officially from the titanium turbine mecca** , YES. . .not a problem. Here are the requirements:

1. 2C Motorcycle oil
2. MUST BE 100% Synthetic
3. Any brand meeting number 1 and 2
4. Mix ratio is from 2.5% to 5% per 5 gallons for all turbines except the Bee. Bee must remain at 2.5% per 5 gallons. Reason. . .very small, precision injectors which could foul with a greater % mixture.

Best regards,
Eric Clapp

** refers to Jet Central Turbines. This response is not an intended approval for other manufacturers.

Is 2C motorcycle oil easier to find than turbine oil? Cheaper?

Socomon:

Normally, it is thought and proven to be less expensive than Turbine oil. I would check and verify with your local source for pricing.

OK, so something like this one, would be OK then?

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ait.aspx

For a 5 gallon fuel container, what does 2.5% equate to?
EDIT - Disregard, I see manual says 16 oz.

Please refer to the Synthetic oil manufacturers mix ratio guide when determining 2.5% to 5% mix ratio per 5 gallons of Kero or Jet A.
Thank you,
Eric

OK - but that oil otherwise meets the guidelines?

I have never used amzoil in the turbines. However in a twin cyl. aiplane DA-100 it forms a very hard deposit on the internals of the engine. This can be debated but Tired Old Man and others that put upwards to 20 hours a day on gas engines will not run the amzoil because of protection and the glass like hard deposits formed.

I know this is not a gas engine but turbine. i would not run it in them. If anything, I would either run the BP oil or like me just break down and by a 5 gal. bucket of DTE Light and be done with it for a long time.

There are very good reports from people buring DTE Light and those that have taken apart there turbines have seen how clean this oil burns. (when i mentioned taken apart there turbines, these are ones that are not covered by warranty or other brands).

just my opinion.

I don't know that amzoil will gum it up or carbon...but I would not take the chance.

as far as local supplier, I would check with any gas/oil dist. in the area.

I would also do a search online for suppliers. I found mine in Albq. New Mexico and had them ship it. All together it was like $90, but that beats payin 8-10 a qt.
