Today i witnessed a very gruesome sight.
This older gentlemen at our club brought his brand new Hangar9 Clipped wing Taylorcraft for it's first flight.
Did it ever look nice.
He started it up taxied it around a couple times checked his surfaces one last time then made his run down the runway to take off.

It lifted perfect, he flew a circuit a few times then he attemped a roll into inverted flight and thats when it happened.
The right side wing just snapped. It was hard to tell if it was the strut or the wing that gave first but it just snapped right off and floated down to the ground.
Well the plane went into a violent twirl and hit the groud HARD!!
I mean this thing look like it exploded when it hit. There was pieces of red and white all over the place.
Every single servo including the reciever got trashed! nothing survived not even his engine.

He yelled "NO!!!!!!!!!" as soon as the wing broke.
I felt so bad for the guy that I offered him my cap to fly for the rest of the day.

Anyways what a terrible thing.

That's a really sad story, the only good thing being that you offered the use of your Cap. Well done!

Yes, said indeed. It's tough to watch planes go down, esp. beatiful planes such as the Taylorcraft, Decathalon, Cubs, etc. I have had some scary moments with a Cub that I will share with you guys sooner or later.
