The line going from the top of the mast to the bow isn't really needed. All that's needed is the forestay going down the front of the jib and attached to the jib boom. Then you have the swivel line located about 25 to 33 percent back on the jibboom that attaches to the deck and then if you so desire a topping lift from the rear of the jibboom up to the attachment point for the jib. We have a lot of Victorias in our club (including the current National Champ) and none of these boats use that type of forestay for the mast. These have a bad tendency to get hung up when other boats are close.

I know thats how it's done on a fullsize manned boat but our models don't always respond to the same ideas.

Respectfully
Steve

That is EXACTLY how mine is set up. I used race with my old club here in TX and racing mods were manditory. I quit when everybody got so much money involved with this. I'm 13 and you know the rest of the story

i get your blue line thing now.. i have the same kinda thing on the winch arm, the line is fixed to the hull, through the winch arm, then to the sail, this is basicly the same thing with the jib boom being the winch.
ok, i got some pics of my own after swearing at the boom to stay up despite being in two bits as i tension it LOL

OK, I guess I misunderstood your picture.

Isn't it amazing how a supposed one design boat (Victoria) can end up with so many modifications. These are the most popular boats in our club right now. I particularly don't like them, though I've raced one of the club members boats and had alot of success with it. I guess I'll have to go ahead and build one, one of these days.

Yeah, the only mods i can really do are ones that involve new sails and what ever can be done with Spider Wire, wood, a dull hobby knife, some eye hooks, and very limited money.

Hey, were all on line!

Those hole do look like they are used for adjusting the curve on the foot of the sail. You don't want the foot dragging on the mainsail boom, you want it to be able to flop from side to side so what you'll need to do is to make the loop that is holding the clew of the sail down to the boom just a little longer.

Thats Perfect. Remember that the far forward for stay is not needed.

just bring a line down from the boom to that eyelet to a cleet off to the side.

Feet, Clew's oh how i miss the good ole world of dehedrial and washout and idle mixture confusion for beginners
i see what your saying tho, new arrangement will inculde longer links to keep the sail away.

have to say, whats here is bloody ugly at the mo. the sails are gonna get bleached clean. a few of the hooks could do with replacing. and the hull will be sanded and repainted a new blue my girlfriend is gonna pick for me still blue

Gee, I was just about say "and give that boat a scrub while yer at it!"

After the new paint is added, give it a good coat of polishing wax.

Feet= the lower tips of the sails
Clew= who said clew? bottom of sail (in general)
Cleet= a place to tie stuff to
outhall= well get to that later
reef= that too
main hailyerd= just kidding!
vang= back to the wonderful world of begginers yet?

night guys, thanks for the help. will be back with new bits to play with after the weekend. might have more thoughts before i go tomorrow tho.
oh yes, found spider wire today.... 12 pounds! and 137 meters per reel. i'll never need that much and not at that price. i'll stick with the stuff i can borrow out the garage
there was a "cheap" version at 6.99, but that was standard mono filimant or sommit
