Found this Byron P 51 new is the box in a friends closet. Ask him what he was going to do with this 17 year old kit and I ended up with it. Gave it to Don Yockey master builder and 9 days later here is what I had.

It flys great and just wanted to share.

Don is amazing. He has done over a dozen jets for me and I can not believe how fast and and good he is.

Kevin........ What engine is in the Mustang ? How is it mounted ? How much nose weight ? I am about to mount a G 62 in a Byron P-51 That I started this year. I would really appreciate a little info. I have already spoken to "Don" about painting it... Thanks

I think you will finf the G62 way over kill for that model. A good 50 cc engine will make it blazing fast. Also the plane will probably come out way nose heavy. That plane was designed around a 45cc engine both with prop reduction drive and with out.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but there aren't too many on the Byron P-51. I am finishing mine this winter and am putting in Byron's Mustang 50cc engine with Purr-Pow'r mount, direct drive (no prop reduction kit).
Question: Has anyone fashioned a way to close the tail wheel doors with the retractable tail wheel? I seem to remember that someone had rigged a rubber band somehow to close the doors as the tailwheel moved forward and up into the fuselage.

I've started using a Hitec55 servo (only weighs 0.28 oz) with a bell crank arangement for the doors. With a 9303 radio I can setup the servo as a slave to the retract servo. That way I can control the delay for opening and closing independently. I've done this on a couple of planes so far and it seems to be working out fine.

I have a byron p51,was my dads...never flew it.....so im sorta restoring it.....having problems with starting the engine though...i prime it.,...and then pretty much only burns that fuel...and barely starts....any ideas what i could do to fix it??? thanks
