I just went to look up the cost of a Sig Kadet ARF and saw that it was discontinued, as well as the LT-40. Bummer, or so I thought...

I looked a little more and see that almost every Sig item has been discontinued.. I don't think that SIG has gone out of business (has it?) but if Sig is still functioning, but not carried by Tower, where is a good spot to get these products now?

Thanks for any info that you can provide.

Bob

Sig has good service to order from directly. They have good prices too.

You can order from Sig directly, but this is yet another example of how modeling imitates life. Tower has gotten so big that it can put a major, respected, high quality model manufacturer out of business. Just as they smashed Carl Goldberg models a few years back and then assimilated a tiny slice of their line, Sig will go the same way.

Once again the mediocrity of low priced crap trumps quality and value.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

From what I gather, Sig is going direct, not going through a major online distributor any more?

I recall the Goldberg situation. I'm not entirely convinced that Sig will go the same way. Time will tell.

Does anyone else have a different input on this?

Bob

I think it's just Tower not handling SIG. They still have SIG products listed at Chief Aircraft, and at Advantage Hobby.

Hope you are right Bob, but I tried that optimism when Tower quit selling Goldberg only to watch them whither on the vine. Nothing left of Goldberg now but the name and an atgreatplanes.com email address.

Sig might make it if they get a good web designer in there fast to completely rebuild their e-commerce operation, but they've had the same slow, confusing, counter-intuitive interface for the last 6 years.

I can't disagree with you, CTDale... They still have a good reputation, so they'd better capitalize on it. I think that people will pay the extra for the quality. I never had a Sig product that I didn't like. I may squirrel away a LT-40 kit or ARF 'just in case' though. My Rascal 40 is still in good shape though.

Thanks, Hemikiller,

Good discussion there. I didn't know about those other threads. I've just read them and subscribed in case there are any other follow-ups.

As others have pointed out... Tower may be slightly cheaper up-front, but when you go to get something repaired (like servos) watch out.

I have stopped ordering from tower unless I have absolutely no other choice.

It has been suggested here that Tower Hobbies stopped carrying Sig products to hurt Sig in some way. Nothing could be further from the truth. Tower Hobbies has carried Sig for decades and respects Sig's products greatly. During this recent economic slowdown, Sig's ability to fill its customers’ orders has not lived up to expectations. As a result, Tower Hobbies was forced to make the very tough decision to stop advertising the line. The Sig product line has long been a favorite of modelers and Tower Hobbies strives to carry products that modelers want to buy. Once conditions change, and we all hope they do, Tower Hobbies will reconsider its decision.

Thanks for that explanation, Bax. I always liked Sig products. I hope that something can be done.
