I just had a set of front wheel bearings go out in just two tanks of fuel, maybe 2 hrs. total running time! What is the best brand of replacement wheel bearings? The ones that will last the longest! Thanks.

Status: offline 		The best bearings I have run across are Boca ceramics. You will literally have to take a hammer to these to break them.

Status: offline 		What vehicle are you putting them in? When checking on bearings find out what they are rated at. Some like Avid do not or will not give you a rating. I recommend if they do not give a rating check elsewhere.

If you can, can you link the bearing rating system?

Status: online 		OK! Thanks for the help! I just ordered some BOCA ABEC- #5 Ceramic Bearings! They aren't cheap, but they say they are designed for Off-Road dirty enviroments!

As for those links, those are dimensional tolerance standards (I assume room temperatures).
The reason why I mention moduli is because under load, the parts strain and those tolerances change.
Also, thermal moduli is used to express expansion and contraction due to temps. With friction, not necessarily from the bearing itself, but from the surrounding parts, heat will cause expansion as well and thus affect those dimensional tolerances.

I really like the Boca and also the Fast Eddie bearings because they use ceramic balls. These are very resistant to thermal expansion and even strain under load and thus hold much more tru to their unloaded and room temp dims.

How good are those ABEC-5 bearings from Team Fast Eddie ? i want to get them but dont know how stiff they will be , will it give good free rolling these bearings ?

i went to my bearing place here in australia and asked for bearings for my baja5b to put in the wheels for front and back so i need 8 bearings , he came back with the highest quality you can get for the highest speed rating , they had a steel outer lining , and were $50 for each bearing , these are excellent for on road only for insane high speed runs , but you cant use them offroad cos they are steel lined and dont have the protection as the other kind of bearings, its a $400 upgrade very expensive but would be interesting to see how much faster it would be able to go with them on

Status: offline 		I have the standard TFE bearings. I have NEVER in all my years of running RC off road run ceramic bearings except in some of my 1/8 scale engines. Might try some ceramic in my large scale engines. I do not have any problem with the none ceramic bearings and even in my 1/8 scale CB bearings never had a problem with the standard bearings. I am not going to pay the price for ceramic wheel bearings as I do not think they will help since I have never had problem with the standard ones. Just my feelings and if they change I will let all know.

I paid $9.95 @ for one of the ceramic bearings and $11.95 @ for the other one for each wheel, for a total of $117.55 delivered from Boca Bearing! The ceramic bearing are sealed and were specifically designed for the 1/5 scale dirty off-road RC environment! I will just have to wait and see if they are worth the investment! They are quite a bit cheaper than the ones you found over there!

Bee prepared for sweetness country! These bearings are silky smooth and you can spin your wheel and it will free spin for a long time! (Assuming nothing else causes any binding up).

Take care of these bearings well and they will last you a long time. Also, let us know how these work out for you personally in your own driving conditions and your bashing style

Status: offline 		All the ABEC 5's should be the same with the exception of price and if you go into Ceramics. If you don't maintain your bearings regularily (very very often) the ABEC 5 makes little difference over a lower rated bearing. Dirt affects tolerances, running a dirty bearing takes away any advantage when paying for a high quality bearing with the exception of Ceramic which I know nothing about and can only assume they well worth the pennies spent on them.

Status: offline 		I really want to replace all my wheel bearings in my 5B with ceramic , man it would glide like on ice with ice skates , but at $50 for each single bearing i dunno , if you guys can find them online for me cheaper let me know . Does davesmotors have any same size ceramic bearings for the wheels in the Baja5b to fit in

Status: offline 		I was kinda hoping to see if someone had a report on the Boca ceramics but I see there isnt.  Its a toss up for me between the Boca lightning ceramics or the Acer Racing ceramics. There is a big difference in price. The Acer's are $100 per set, Boca's are $250 per set. Im trying to justify the cost of the Boca's.

Status: offline 		dude just go to a CBC and see what's available......considering the weight of your car, and it's powerplant; going to a ceramic is only going to make a hundredth of a second difference in a lap time; aren't you just bashing hard?

a "ZZ" steel shielded job is rated for hi speed, no load
a "2RS" job is rubber shielded and is good for higher load
"LLC" (If I remember rightly) is a blue/brown or black rubber shield denoting high temperature/industrial use
(I used to use those when rebuilding alternators for trucks and rotaries)

I imagine the wheel bearing for these cars to be around the size of a 608 or a 626 in size, yeh?
If so, commonly available, and cheap as chips.

I just don't see the point in ceramic technology unless you are a team driver looking for the Nth degree on your sanctioned vehicle.

Status: offline 		Thats right Mudgy.I just use some bearings for inlineskates on my FG,they come in set with 8 pcs and cost about $12.They have the 2RS rubbershield.And;the bearings for FG are the 608(8x22 mm)

I'll give ya two good reasons to run ceramic bearings. 1- With regular maintenance, they will last a VERY long time compared to standard bearings. I mean like you would go through a few sets of steel bearings before the ceramics get crappy.  2- You'll get a bit more than a hundreth of second. If you took two identical cars, the one with the ceramics will run at least 2-3 mph faster. This is why I want them. But when you have one company selling a complete set for $100 and another at $250, you just gotta question it. Too bad Acer doesnt show their bearing specs on the website. Boca does.

Status: offline 		yes i went to CBC the other day and i asked for ceramic bearings he said no dont sell those , but he had the a ''ZZ'' steel shielded job is rated for hi speed, no load at a cost of $55 for one single bearing , lol i need 8 to complete a 5b , man i just bought the team fast eddy complete 5b wheel bearing kit pack for $20 something dollars last week lol they are good bearings but not great i dont see anything special about them but they do the job . i asked DDM to get cearmic wheel bearings for the 5b they said yes they had a huge order from fast eddy comming in a few weeks , that was about over a month ago and i havnt seen nothing on the DDM site about them , and i got sick of emailing DDM about it

Status: offline 		I hate to say this but I am still running stock bearings in my Baja's in the wheel area but I do keep them sprayed with TRI FLOW if they get wet.
I have had more issues with the bearings around the clutch area then anywhere else on these things.
Those have been replaced with Fast Eddys

Cause EDDY is an awesome guy thats why
