Yes they did, for instance a Saito 125 went from 339 to 389, that's quite a jump all at once. Happened about a year ago. Since then I've been buying used.

If you look at the Horizon Hobbies page you'll see their prices skyrocketed on everything. 2 years ago I had a Hangar 9 27% Extra and they cost $379 then. Last year they jumped to $499. Ridiculous.

That's why a lot of folks are running $200 Chinese Gas engines in place of their glow and 4S. Half the cost, and 3x the flight times at low fuel cost. I'm hoping as you see more and more gas engines hit the market Saito and the rest will lower their prices. We shall see!

They can't magically lower their prices unless their costs to manufacture and distribute go down.

Same thing here. When OS and Saito jumped their prices I finally started listening to my more frugal brother.

Tune into eBay and watch. Periodically you can get a great buy on new or almost new engines. I bought two used OS52s at bargain basement prices (they run great btw) and a new OS91FX for $50.00 off the going retail price. Pretty much put it back at the pre-jumped price.

That's true Chuck but I question if it didn't have more to do with the lowering exchange rate of the dollar?? Both Horizon and Tower prices went nuts right about the same time. I haven't checked in a while but during the price hikes YS didn't go up, not sure about the prices of the YS now though? I too pulled out my gassers and try to use them as much as I can, way cheaper to operate and the price of a good gasser is now lower then a good Four Stroke Glow engine.

i just dont get it, it must be one of those brand things, another example is the os 2 stroke engine series. st, gms, tt, k&b ect are as good if not better at half the price.
most people at my field would buy a saito engine for 300 bucks when a 180 dollar magnum fs would do just fine. magnums weigh a little more but they would never notice (and most add weight to the front of the plane anyways) since they are planes such as a cub or cessna. i understand it if you are trying to save weight in a aerobatic plane, or like the looks if its going to be out in the open, what ever floats your boat i guess.

H9 has seemed to reduce their prices a bit over the last week or 2. On planes anyway...lets see what happens with the engines.
