A couple weeks ago i got another Zero and I thought I would post the bashing that gets done.. this time I'm going to get plenty of pics' the first one that i built was a real sweety but I never got any pic's of the thing befor its komikaze death on the 7th flight.. Im sold on how good a Zero fly's so one this one i deside to relocate the mains ( as done the first time, fix the flapps, Ailerons and maybe even a retractable trailwheel. donno about that one quite yet tho. All you see today was done in about 4or5 hours. turned out good enough for a daily flyer that i hope that this one will be. probably tomorrow night I'll fix the ailerons.. but thats not a biggy.

ok here you guys go. the pics are pretty self explanitory

About half way in the landing gear section. i lined the area where the gear will be mounted (photos) with 3/16 ply and the landing blocks are halfinch ply.. after the location is set in stone , i'll gusset the blocks to the wing. ill post later. had a friend (on sight signs) print a outline of the real zero and matched up the location for the gear. the thin ply where the wheel is is for added strength just incase the gear slapps the top of the wing. i have about 3/16 clearance but you never know + its there for the fuse, thats where the fuse rides on the top on the wing.

a quick update on the zero. the gear is completed, ailerons finished. the wing is glassed with 2 oz cloth and finished with a resin coat.yesterday i started on the front leading edge on the fuse. the fuse came all squared off and fake looking so i cleaned that up and also reinforced the wood where the dowlpins go into. it was made with only 1/4 ply so i doubled that up and thought about useing aluminum tube, like yellow does for added stregth....

ok that is..it

Are those 1/2" Robart struts? And what length struts did you use?

Hey!!!? whats goin on..???

thought i would holler at you and post some more progress with the Zero.the wing is all mounted . instead of dowls, because how snug the wing fits to the fuse, I used 1/4-20 bolts and blinde nuts. and the same for the rear, a little bit of filler and primer and poof.2 days later...

So now im going to get the elevator and rudder glassed and cought up with the front wingand then panel lines..

Ok. so I havew a question for all the scale junkies that have watched my work over the years. well what do you all think about panel line tape that does this!!!! LOOK!! chart tape will never do this. and the glue on this, wot stay on your plane.. photos are 2 hours after putting on. and it is 25 mills thick. the Zero will be the test bed for it..this could work to be a great thing to go along with my rivets. down the road.. but im to familiar with the pains of chart tape. and untill now. it is the oly thing that is in the thickness we modelers need

The wing mounting is the nest step in my CMP Fw190 bash , did you go in from the front to align the front wing hold in screws ? Assuming with the wing on place ?

How did you get the holes exact ? I love to do that method vs going in from the front , its not the tools that are a concern is the exact angle of attack and allignment ?

You're just a busy guy...looks to me almost every two weeks you have another bird on the bench.

One tip, get the car in the garage done - then you have more space for airplanes

youll need access to a tig welder.....because its chromoly, brazing just getts things to darn hot. i cut off the sissor mount off the lower part of the strut and tigged it in the correct location. on the real plane the sissors are outboard but the robart ones dont allow that.. so the easyest thing was to put them on the other side, as seen. the pic with the pen is where the original location of the sissor mount was. i also bent the strut where the wheel mounts to. so the wheels are 90 degrees from the ground and also allows for the gear doors to fit and look correct..

hope this helps?
