I have a trex 450 sev2, after months of disgust with a jr G7703d gyro. I am looking for a new gyro. I thinking just a plain basic gyro. (align?) any suggestion? Thanks

depends on what your expectations are from a gyro.
like Mcdaniel said if you're looking for something cheap that works and get you by, then try the G401B gyro from xmseller.

but for me I never skimp on the gyro.   I look for the latest in technology.

1.spartan 760
2. align gp750
3. gy520

these are hottest gyros right now with the Spartan 760 as the market leader.    I have 2 align gp750's right now and they are simply awesome.   Setup is so easy a caveman can do it.

What is wrong with the JR770? I know a couple of guys that are flying these without any issues at all. At the last funfly I attended, I saw a few guys flying hard core 3D using the JR770. However, from what I have heard, these gyros can be a little difficult to setup properly. If it is a setup issue, go over to Helifreak.com and check out the 770 setup videos from Finless. I would include a link, but Helifreak is blocked on my work computer.

If you are set on getting a new gyro, any of the ones noobflyer listed work great. I have two Spartan DS760s and really like them. I also have a Curtis Youngblood Solid G and a Logitec 6100T that also work super. I have a friend using the new Futaba gy520 on his T-Rex 700 and he loves it!

If you are not yet flying any fast backwards or doing big tail slides, you could just pick up a trusty Futaba GY401. You can find these used in the classified at Helifreak or Runryder for about $75. While the 401 is not up to the Spartan or GY520 standards, it is still a good gyro that can take a beginner a long way.

Good luck!

Futaba gy 401.
Have one each on my t-rex and blade 400. They work very well. Would also suggest Hi tec 5084 rudder servo. Have one on each of them to control the R+ L unwanted motions. the 5084 (at this time) is the faster rudder servo available
My 02. here.

I like the price of the gyro from xmhobby. I am still a very basic flyer,so I don't need anything really fancy.

Dude don't sell your self short on the gyro get a good combo I am using the GP 750 with a ds 520 on a 450 pro. Had a CP Belt played with the cheap ones and it realy made it hard work. You want something rock solid especaily if you are learning. It also gives you room to move later. Try these guys for a combo http://www.helipross.com/align-gp750-head-lock-gyro-combo-gp750ds520-.html

Be sure you don't have any mechanical binding in any mechanism dealing with the tail.  It ANY part is not smooth, replace it.  Make sure the tail output shaft is absolutely straight.  Make sure the bearings have NO notchy feel.  If your grip assembly uses thrust bearings, make sure they are installed properly and the bearing itself is packed with grease.  These are basic items that are often overlooked when having issues with the tail.  Sure, its tedious and sure it's a lot of work to verify everything, but if you find anything wrong and replace it then have your tail problems go away, isn't it worth the extra effort?

I use the ds3400g with a 401 and it works great! I love it! I also have a trex 450 with a 401 and the Futaba S9257 and I really can't tell much of a difference. But I only do sport flying. But I have also heard good things about the gyro you are running and I wonder if something isn't wrong with the setup. I know I get a little bit of a wag when my battery starts getting low. I wonder if that is part of it? Just my thoughts. Best of luck.

Has anyone ever tried the Align RCE-600 gyro? I've never flown with anything else and wonder how it fares against other gyro's mentioned here. To me as long as I have no vibration, especially in the tail as scott just mentioned, then it seems reasonably good at holding its heading. It seems better in a little wind, on a very still day it can tend to rotate clockwise very very slowly when in a hover.
That said, BoysToys just mentioned about flying backwards which leads me to believe that only a good gyro will do this well. I have to say I'm only just learn forward in flight and so I have spent many hours flying fast backwards towards me doing a 180 as I pass and flying off forwards. It always holds very well when doing this.

Try the g401b gyro from deal extreme or XM Hobbies.
It's really cheap, and real finnicky about proper setup with no vibes.
They work really well when setup correctly.
Be sure to follow the thread over at RCG on the XM Hobbies gyro......lots of good info, and trouble shooting tips.

Don

P.S. I guess what I'm trying to say is............the g401b is very good at letting you know about the problems, that other gyros may mask.

it depends on the flying style and what you expect the performance of the gyro. i have used the Gy401.. good gyro and works great but its a old school gyro and for hard 3D fliers, i dont think it will give you the leading edge. Currently am using the Spartan gyro and these rocks. similar to the PG800 same feature and hold but only cheaper. nothing beats the feeling in flight and 3D.

i would go for the align gp 750 combo and ds520 rudder servo i just got this and have had about 4 flights with it very good holds exellant! I also before had a JR500t and it was terrible hold for a wile then would pull all over the place made me crash 3 times!!! i will never trust JR gyros again and now that you say your 770 dosent work just reinforces this fact!

GY 520 is the ticket, especially at the price they are going for right now.

How long have you had this gyro? It shouldn't be hard to set up and operate at all. Instead of blowing money on new parts, re-check your mechanics and/or send it back to JR. The 770 is supposed to be a solid gyro.

we finally got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! found several issues, #1 I found out that the damping o rings on the feathering shaft were the wrong ones causing slop in the head, #2 that my esc was set to governor mode , causing the tail to twitch, now she flies rock solid,, til the next crash and we start all over . was able to set gain to 70 with no twitch
