Hey,

We had a good time although the weather didn't hold for us. Blues ended up doing their low show. One thing I wondered, though, was how they were able to fly their diamond formations through clouds. I would have guessed that they could maybe do solo stuff that took them through clouds but I stood there in awe watching them do a diamond loop where they punched up through some clouds (with more than a little vertical development) then come down the other side through another big fat cloud. That gave me more pucker-factor as a spectator than any of the opposing solo maneuvers did. Buck?

Here's a cute pic. We ran into a Navy pilot walking around with his Navy doc father (both in uniform) and the pilot had his 4-year-old son with him (also in his own little flight suit). It was very cool to see how proud they all were of each other. The proudest of all was the 4-year-old who gave my son a tour of his dad's plane...

Priceless!

Shauno,
You sure those folks were Navy? That looks like an F-16 :-)

I think the Blues did their regular show on Sun. I shot the show from Mt. Soledad and they sure got what looks like most of the vertical maneuvers in.
Whas pretty cool from that distance...seeing them go through the puffy clouds, out of the top of them, then descend back through and out the bottom.
I nice juxtaposition to the incredible tarmac perspective of the two previous days

Sorry I missed ya.

When you wanting those fences bro?
Shaun Jr.'s getting big.

everyone just flies off lead and maintains their position in the formation amigo. wherever lead goes the team goes...........even if it's straight into the ground.

they always have to have ground reference so the clouds must not have been too thick otherwise i doubt the would do any vertical stuff. flying solo is always the way to go as iceman once said, " i heard that bout you....you like to work alone "

I can't believe i just quoted the biggest Mig15 aviation movie of all time. LOL

Paul, the Navy flies F-16's, the F-16N model. It is used as a dissimilar air combat aggressor. They use them at Fallon, at the Top Gun school.......or "NSAWC"....I am an F-16 dork, as is the only reason i know that!

BTW- I want some fences!

Hey,

Nahh....that wasn't the high show. I think they got a couple of vertical stunts in there (maybe a modified low show?) but it was missing several of the really high moves I love. As for the F-16, yup....it was an F-16N, as evidenced in this pic where you can clearly see the "VY" in "NAVY" Shaun is getting big, indeed. It's only a matter of hours until he's Corey's age when I first met him. Where's the time going....

Buck,

Trippy. The cloud cover wasn't solid, but there were big fat puffy rainclouds scattered all about, and a couple of times the diamond flew right through them. I was terrified and impressed at the same time. Knowing that only the front guy is looking ahead, it seems that much more ballsy. I remember being freaked out by a little bit of soup I got caught in soon after getting my private license. The Ain't flown through one of them things since.... You guys do some amazing stuff, bro...

We got the all the good stuff Saturday. Never really saw a cloud.... until the marine layer started to move in late.

Did anyone stay for the wall of fire and night afterburner passes? It was well worth the wait in my book.
