I have the game commander and it has a 15 pin male plug (game port ?). When I plug it into the 15 pin plug on my PC, the program does not find it and won't let the program run. Do I need to get a 15 to 9 pin adapter or should it be finding it on the 15 pin plug.

In addition, what is the "stick sequence" to calibrate the game commander. When it says to center and then rotate the stick, is that the right or left stick. No mattter which one I rotate, the throttle "red bar" is very spastic. Rudder seems to be ok. Tried to follow along with the manual but it is not very clear to me.

AFAIK, AeroFLY Pro needs a serial "dongle" to run ("dongle" is a hardware lock, which prevents copies of the software from running on other computers). So, just having a game commander is not enough to control AeroFLY Pro.

Well I've had nothing but trouble with the game commander since I got the program. Coundn't get it to calibrate properly in windows. The controls are jittery, non proportional and some channels affect other channels.
I upgraded my video card as was suggested on the Aerofly website forum. This made things different but still not right. I returned it to the shop and of course they reckon it works fine. They are sending me a different one to try.
What I dont get is I have a joystick that works fine, unfortionately its too hard to fly with so I havnt had a chance to really use the program yet.

I ended up using a HiTec flash 5 transmitter with this one instead of the game commander. Couldn't get it to work with the program and had this transmitter laying around. Works fine now.

Biggest problem is in about 4 weeks my laptop will be back home and I don't think ( daughter has been using computer at summer school) that I have a serial port on it. From what I've read serial is about all that will work. Need to search further about other possibilities.

I finally got a different game commander sent to me and I still cant calibrate in windows. I am stumped. I have everything required as listed in the minimum system requirements. What else should I check, adjust, install, reinstall. Has anyone esle had this problem and got it sorted. I'm very close to taking a sledgehammer to the game commander!

I know nothing about your software but I know a little about computers. So here goes.

What OS are your running?

Do you have the latest drivers for game controllers installed?

Is the OS patched with the latest patches and service packs?

Depending on the OS have you selected and reviewed the settings in Control Panel for the specific controller?

Are you doing Windows calibration or is it in the Game.

Did you try the controller in a game just to see how it reacts in other software.

If you select the system icon in the control panel and click hardware then device manager assuming you using a late version of windows is the game controller marked in yellow by chance?

Last question where does the dongle get plugged in? In serial with the game controller or into a different port?

Hope its food for thought,

Tom

Running windows XP. Not shure about latest drivers for game controllers, I had to set it up as a custom unit, 4 axes single button. Iv,e downloaded all the relevant updates.
Its in windows that I cant calibrate properly.
Not marked yellow. Dongle in different port.

I gave it to my brother to try on his and a few other computers, he couldn't get it to work either, although I haven't seen it myself to see wether its the same problems or different.

Since XP automatically updates itself, assuming you don't have some weird installation then I can only think of two other things. There is a Windows Service Pack that you can try. I am not sure if there were any issues with Game Controllers.

The other common element is the game port. Having your brother try it is a good idea. It's possible that the game port has some issues. So even if the simple joystick works maybe this much more complex one is having difficulty with the game port.

Another possibility might be other software that conflicts with the game port. You might try to close down everything that you don't need to keep XP up and see what happens.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I know how frustrating a problem like this can be.

Best of luck,

Tom

I went over to my brothers and he had got it to work properly. He is running xp but has a lower quality soundcard. I tried reinstalling my soundcard, no change.

So now you've narrowed it down to your machine. And maybe the sound card, since this is where the game port is located.

Are your running a Sound Blaster? Great cards but should be sound *******s. There are a lot of issues with SB cards and everything from mother boards to video cards.

If its an SB go to their site and do the look for updates. There is an automatic process where they examine your card before and then tell you what updates you need. You can also perform it manually.

Be warned I have experienced total screw ups when updating Sound-blaster Drivers. Sometimes your better off uninstalling the old ones first.

If you have a backup program you might consider backing up C:\ or wherever your OS is. Take a checkpoint with windows before your start so you can back out if you need to.

The last suggestion I have is to try to locate a standalone Game port and install that.

Over here the chain computer stores allow you a 30 day return so if its the same down there go buy the card and try it.

As I write this I keep thinking of more things. Could you swap sound cards with your brother. It won't cause him any problem so long as he leaves the machine off until you run the test.

Uninstall yours, install his and try the card. If his works then you know it is most likely the sound card.

Last but always a winner, check the forum again you have more info now. Also search the sound card vendors site for issues.

Good Luck, let me know how your making out. BTW, I bought G2 with the USB connection. It runs ok in XP but it crashes XP too. Very intensive processing and I have a high end machine with 1/2 gig of memory.

yeah its a soundblaster, the one they reccommended to me over on aerofly forum. Trying to find someone to lend me a gameport joystick to test and also a gameport to usb adapter. If the adapter works I"ll buy one.
