George it is me Mike F and we talked at Hamburg this fall. The latest Wea adaptor with the 14mz europe region code works perfact. What I was talking about is using the latest Wea adaptor with the USA region code , this did not work..... Futaba just discontinued the 14z and I was unable to get one. That leaves only the 12z that has a external module.

Has anyone successfully sent an item back to Wea for repair? If so, did you get prior authorization and to whom did you send it?

I got too heavy handed while removing the antennae on my 12-22r Gyro 3 and damaged the SMA receptacle that is attached to the board.   Be warned, the antennae should only be put on hand tight. I must have overtightened it back when I installed it and needed to use a small wrench to unscrew it. Well, the receptacle gave out before the thrread "cracked" and now I need a receptacle.

I really wasn't very ham fisted, it is a surprisingly fragile piece.

All,
Wondering if I should upgrade from version 2.33 firmware.... I'm getting a little too many lost links in my Micros for Rec->Tx and its causing hitting my signal quality alarms. I understand that Wea is sending the data to the Tx using only one antenna. Was this changed to use two antennas in a subsequent firmware? If yes, has that been effective?
Not really using any other feature that may require later firmware, as I only have the GPS module with no english file.

For those interested, I just received the new Adapter for Futaba FASST with USA region code. I bought a brand new 12Z to use it in. Unfortunately it does NOT work!

Although the radio recognises the adapter and connects to the receiver fine, the servos jump and twitch indiscriminately. Interestingly, it is not some sort of RF glitch as you can watch in Giga Control and see that the servo's are actually "being" commanded by the module to move in this manner while the radio sits there idle.

I cannot believe that this would get out of production and ship without someone realizing it doesn't work! Was it never hooked up to a receiver and servo's for testing?

I have an email and video into Jens at Wea showing them what is happening but have yet to hear back.

Mike, I warned about this several posts ago! I guess you use Weatronic modulation too because Futaba modulation does not work? In our case the twitching went away with a newer firmware but burnt several servo's (from various brands) without any good reason. We gave up on using the 12FG-Wea combo.

Regards, Bart.

Hi Bart, I must have missed your warning

This is the new FASST adapter for USA that Wea just released for sale at the end of November. My DV3 and DV4 both have the current updates, . I was aware that Wea has a long history of problems with Futaba equipment but, that was with the PPM adapter and issues with regiion codes. Some fellows seem to be having success with the FASST adapter with Euro code and a Euro coded transmitter so, I thought Wea had the bugs worked out of it. I took a shot when they came out with the USA coded adapter but, no luck. I just can't believe such a high tech company with such good equipment can have so many issues with Futaba compatability.

To answer your question though, yes, the default auto modulation is : weatronic modulation. The only other options are PPM/ PCM related ones.

Mike

Edgar, we are having problems with the newer 12FG's, on these you cannot select PPM modulation because it is a dedicated FASST tx. There lies the problem I guess.

It's the Wea adapter that has changed. The transmitter still has PPM/PCM capabilities but, the new Wea adapters use the radio's FASST protocol. In theory, this is much better than using the transmitter's PPM protocol to convert the signal because it gives you the higher resolution and lower latency that the FASST signal has.  I'd love to see WEA come out with an adapter for the JR12x that uses the transmitters Spektrum protocol, then I wouldn't have to bother with Futaba to get 12 channel Wea. It shouldn't be that hard to accomplish; even HOBBY King can do it!

Just for your info, there is a new WEA Support Thread in the german RC-Network:

http://www.rc-network.de/forum/showthread.php/370493-Weatronic-II-Technisches?p=2998106#post2998106

The old one has been closed for new postings but is still available for look-ups. New themes are discussed in the following-up thread just mentioned before...

best regards

Any inputs on the question of firmware update for the Rx to transmit using the two antennas? Thanks

I wish I had one to try, but have you tried the different FASST setting to see if anything changes? Just thinking out loud.

Is anybody interested in a free FASST adapter for testing purposes? I have no need for it since I'm not a Futaba user.
Please send a PM if you're interested.

Hi George, thanks for the help, I have tried both FASST settings ( Fasst Multi and Fasst 7 channel) with the same result Still no reponse from Wea either.

I have heard back from Wea regarding my challenges with the Futaba 12z and the new Fasst adapter USA. They have reviewed my video and find it "interesting". They have asked for log files for review so they may further investigate the problem. I have provided the log.

My own review of the log files clearly show the servos being randomly commanded to move on a continual basis even though the transmitter sits idle. The same check on my JR 12x/ Wea setup shows everything rock solid.

I hope they can come up with a fix.

I wonder if it's the FHSS is "affecting" it causing unwanted PWM pulses to be sent. It will be interesting to see what they figure out.

An update for those interested in using Wea with Futaba  USA stateside. I posted earlier that my new 12Z would not work with the new Wea Adapter FASST USA. What I have since discovered is that that the adapter is designed for the 14mz only. Even though the 12FG/ 12Z and 14MZ share the same Futaba module, the Wea adapter is only for the 14MZ. I tested it in a friends 14MZ transmitter and it works perfectly.  I have ordered the Wea T-12 adapter to be used in my 12Z however; it is only available with the Euro region code so, it will be necessary to change the transmitters region code to get it to work.

Wea offered to program an adapter to work with my 12Z in USA mode if I would send them the transmitter to work with but, I declined as it was costly and time consuming to send the radio to Germany. Will be more efficient for me to just change the region code myself.

Mike
