Has anyone flown this engine with the APC 18x8W ? Seems like a pretty good match for this engine so I'm surprised no one has tried it.

APC to heavy for my taste, ran a 18X8 Mejchlik on it good, 18X8 Vess, not enough, happy with 19X8 XOAR and tuned a whole lot better then the others

Well ... it seems to me that we are discussing the DLE 30 and what prop is good for your personal application...

but as for me... great post and a bunch of good information... thanks...

DLE - 30 PROP DATA

User Prop RPMs

Daddysam Xoar 18-8 7800
bcchi Xoar 19x8 7400

OS 1.60 - 200 RPM rich of peak:

Prop RPMs

Xoar 18-8 8050
Xoar 19x8 7585
APC 18x6W 8900

I Compared these over the last week to my OS 1.60 with the BGX Bisson muffler and Perry pump on 15% Coolpower full syntetic (18% oil). The 1.60 is a little stronger on each prop with less overall weight - But the 30 still looks to be a good option if you don't like to deal with glow power.

Great Post. I went ahead and took the plunge on replacing my OS with the DLE without being able to find data like this. The only thing now is I wish you had a MLD 35 to do the same tests with to round out what were my choices ;-)

I have resisted the plunge...

Looks like I can stay lighter with less vibration and noise...

But the fuel savings is tempting...

If DLE makes a 40cc I'm in...

Soo guys how low is to low?

I put a dle 30cc in my Spitfire (71in wing) I was going to put the OS 1.60 as I really want this big bird to screem, I got plenty of 3d Birds, I just want something cool/fast.

Im getting 8300 on a Zinger Pro 18X8,

I see that most are running around  (Xoar   18x10       7500rmp)

So I was thinking of useing a Zinger pro 18X12, for more speed. I have a plug in tac comeing in the mail, I just don't want to burn this lovely motor up, so I want to make sure its not over prop, so What RPM would you consider to much load?  7000rpm???

I see that BCCHI is getting (Zinger Pro.22x6 6700 rpm

This seems to be the lowest RPM recorder, SO would this be safe?

Also I have never been able to fig,

If the 18X10 dose 7500 rpm
and a 18X12 dos lets say 6700 rpm, wich will be faster?

Thanks Mike

Well Prop Data, I had a nice 18X14 laying around and I just had to see if the DLE 30 could swing it.

I belive this is to much prop for this motor.  Zinger Pro 18X14 = 5800 rpm

The motor is still breaking in, its only got 1/2 gallon at most.

The crazy thing is, I put the same prop on a cheap 52cc motor and only got 6300 rpms.  So I can say this DLE is a power house in my book!!!

PS I just want to add the RPM may be a little low due to the fact after I did this test, later that day I was wipeing her down, and found the spark plug was very lose.

DLE 30V2 , pitts muffler, 7150RPM - APC 19X8W. 2gallons runtime on a Peakmodels Yak 55.
Unlimited vertical but slow spoolup.
Will wait to finetune the engine as it breaks in and if spoolup remains slow... any suggestions?

I also have owned an OS 160 run with a perry pump.
3years of flying on a QQ 73" all I can say is that peformance is directly comparable to the DLE (APC 18X8W@8.300rpm).
Was a Vgood engine but when U go gas there is no return -at least for me.

Hi, Judijody, I have a DLE 30 side mount carb. What is a good place to start with the carb set screws to start at? It seems to run better with about 1/4 choke so I was thinking it might need to be rightened. Any help would be great. Thanks Chris

If you are having to run some choke on the engine, it is set too lean.

since this is a prop data thread.... i have experimented with a xoar 18x8 bw, xoar 19x8 sword, mejzlik 18x10, and a Xoar 19x6bw... and i like the 19x6 beechwood xoar the best out of them all on my 1/4 scale Cub.

i get 7.9-8k rpm on stihl ultra 40:1

p.s. i now run all my gassers on 40:1 even my dle 20 i did break her in on 28:1 for a couple of gallons though

I have 3 tanks thru my DLE-30,

Prop: Xoar Axial 20x8
RPM: 6400

I need to attach a scale to the plane and weigh the thrust as this combination pulls really hard and should work out great on my 1/4 Fokker DRI. I will be running the engine again in a little while and I will check the thrust.

Thats a pretty heavy prop load for the 30. I would think the engine would be happier with a 20-6 or something similar and that would fit the DR1 airspeed envelope well also.

I settled on the 19-6 for my CUB also. Either Beechwood or the laminated version work the same. Plenty of power for knife edge loops, etc. ...... I know not scale like but oh well!!! More pitch for lighter weight aerobatic planes seems in order and there a 19-8 works well. Nothing really new to report I guess! I continue to enjoy the 30s I own very much.

I think you are right but it is what I have. If I bust this prop I will get a 20x6 next. I just ran the engine again and it has 16lbs of thrust. The DRI weighs 15.5lbs dry. I am sure the engine will unload some in the air so I don't think the prop is going to hurt much and I am also going to be flying at 1/2 throttle or less most of the time. I am guessing normal cruise will be at 1/4-1/3 throttle.
Later!!
Anthony

I put the maiden flight on my DRI last Thursday. The plane flew very well with this engine. The engine however did not unload as I had anticipated. I swaped out the 20x8 prop for a 18x8 Xoar Beechwood prop and it seems much happier. It is pulling 7500rpm. I will fly this combination next weekend if the weather will allow and see how it performs. With the 20x8 the engine sputtered on the vertical line of a loop for just a moment. I just ran the 18x8 and held the fuse vertical for a bit and it didn't change RPM.
Later!!

DLE 30v2 50 degrees, sea level, Installed in 70 inch wing span BH FW190.

Master Airscrew Classic 18-8 8,450 rpm good vertical, good speed (2 blade)

Biela Three Blade 17-10 6,000 rpm, level speed good but very limited vertical.

I think the Biela Three Blade 17-10 is too much prop. I'm going to try a Xoar 18-8 Three Blade as that is what Valley View RC recommends for a DLE 30 in this size warbird. The plane is light for a warbird this size, 12.4 lbs dry. The 18-8 two blade gives it more than enough thrust but I think the rpm is too high when unloaded. I have ordered the 18-8 three blade for Valley View and will report my findings.
