jreue -> EC3 to DEANS adapter/conversion (9/28/2009 5:34 PM)

I bought 2 Zippy 2200 mAh batteries only to find out they have DEANS connectors while the Blade 400 has EC3.

I was simply going to buy an adapter but I've read that some people are having issues with the adapter. It seems most people are just converting their EC3 to DEANS while some are converting the DEANS to EC3.

Whats the consensus?

jreue,

I personally like the EC3's better, I find them easier to work with, and they are not super hard to disconnect, a common complaint with the dean's connectors.

The dean's I think have a slightly higer amp rating, but I have never seen or heard of any issues with the EC3's, especially on smaller helis like the B400, they don't draw all that much amperage anyways.

I have used the adapters from Hobby king/Hobby City, and didn't have any issues, but I didn't like all the mess. so I just converted all my packs to EC3's for uniformity reasons. Haven't had any issues with the much less expensive EC3's I've gotten from Hobby King/City at all...they seem to be nearly as good or as good as the genuine Eflite ones.

Hope this helps...there is an online "how to" on EC3's to make them easier to solder, you might check out too...

You stated you got some 'less expensive EC3s'. Which one did you get? Do Zippys come in EC3? I didn't see them?

jreue,

I was actually referring to the connectors themselves, rather than the packs and what they came with. My packs also came with deans style connectors, I switched them over...

I think JPEE just got some batteries from HC that came with EC3's...might ask him about that...

Anyways, here's the EC3 connectors...for what it's worth. Mine were fine, but there seems to be some bad reviews here...so use at your own risk...HC has great prices, and most of their stuff is pretty decent, but seems as though they get stuff in huge quantities, and the product/quality varies from time to time....or order to order...

Keep in mind shipping costs too.....HC works best with larger orders...I usually wait until I need alot of stuff from them, mainly batteries, and then place an order for lots of stuff...saves on shipping, esp if you choose the fast shipping, gets expensive!!

That is an amazing price, I think the Eflite ones are nearly that much for a pack of two....

Good luck with it, however you go about it!

I made adapters for this type of situation. I have several helis with EC3 connectors on the ESC and my Hobby City batteries came with Dean's. For me, this was easier. Now I need to make a Dean's to EC3 adapter for the Turnigy 2650 6S batteries I got for my T500ESP.

Thanks for the information!
