Mortorman,

What are the details of your accident? I saw something similar when a guy was starting up without a table and the aircraft slipped from his grip. The wingtip hit the flight box and the aircraft pivoted into the forearm of the hand that was originally holding the aircraft while he was running up the engine.

His was a singular cut and was very deep and did significant damage. Yours look like the aircraft ran up your arm.

Bob

Take it easy on the hand. I was lucky that my injury was easy to keep out of the way, and keep it clean. Have they done anything more with the pinky.

I went to the doctor yesterday and he said it is looking good. He put a graft on my finger last thursday. Where do you think this post should be Ken? I am open for suggestions. I was just trying to remind erveryone to be safe.

Thanks for posting the pic's. My older brother is always getting too close to the prop, especially with the giant scale models. Hopefully these pic's will back him off a lil.

Best of luck and speedy recovery.  Learn from your mistakes and warn others...

Hey Motorman,  Just checked out the other thread. Wow, that's a mess. It really looks horrendous.

I have had a forearm cut from a prop. I was holding a .10 size Shrike about to launch when a kid ran up. I pulled back the shrike and turned the prop eer so slightly into my forearm. I had three cuts. The center was the worst. I glued it shut at the field. I still have a small scar. This was a 25 engine with a 8X4 APC. I feel very fortunate.

Sorry to hear about your injury.

I too play guitar and feel your pain.

Good Luck,

Bob

That's the worst part Bob. I had those calluses for 50 years and now there gone, plus I lost half a finger. Oh well I must remember, it could have been much worse. I can't give up the hobby, I love it too much. Just need to slow down and pay attention.

Our condolences and wishes for a quick recovery for you, Bob. You beat my worst mini amputation by a fair margin. Of course, that is not one contest that anyone would wish to win.

I too play stringed instruments, musical keyboard and am a touch-typist, so I can appreciate the loss in functionality. You are in our prayers over here.

Is there a category for injury accidents on this site? I think this belongs in the ARFs myself. Many beginners come here. They need to see the potential dangers of thier new hobby.

This doesn't belong in this catagory

If you wanted to address issues like this there is a Beginners section also Tips and Techniques. Not trying to flame you, but I don't care to see your missing finger in a section based on aircraft that are almost ready to fly.

Ken,

Curiosity killed the cat.....

I posted a comment to your recent post here immediately after I read it. Then, after a moment of paused reflection, I then dedided to come back and edit it, fearing that my initial reaction may have been too caustic and incite a riot here.

I'll simply rephrase my words and leave it at that.

I feel that it is important for individuals, particularly those with three decades of RC experience, to share incidents of this nature with the community to underscore a subject of prime importance to everyone, "safety".

Before I opened the thread, I read the "Subject Title". The title "Warning Graphic Picture" pretty much sumed it up for me. Given the dangerous nature of our hobby, I could only naturally assume that some kind of accident occurred with a whirling prop... and upon opening it, I was mentally prepared to process what I was about to see.

This may be a reflex for you to adopt when browsing the forum. It works for me. I simply read the subject of the post before opening it and if I don't want to read the post, I simply continue on to the next one.

It has been my experience that the moderators on RCU do a very good job of directing posts to their proper topic category.

Zip.

Maybe so, But a moderator just chastised me for a personal attack in this forum. The only problem is that I didn't post the offending language specified. Someone else did. I'd say who, but that might be a personal attack. LOL!

All I am saying is it doesn't belong under this catagory. Never did I say it shouldn't be posted. I just feel this isn't the place for it. No I didn't have to click it. I saw it, I reported it. I said my piece on it. I stand firm in my belief that it has no application in the ARF catagory. Good Day

I am saying it does belong under this category. Safety is for everyone, not just beginners ! I hope you never have to find that out.

I'm saying it needs to be repeated in any category that deals with models powered by paint stirrers on the front end.
So maybe it shouldn't be in the Jet section.
But it should be in just about every other forum...except the 3D/CAD.
How can making even one person give safety an additional couple of brain cells a work out be a bad thing?
When it comes to warning of injuries, there is no wrong category...and ARFer's need it most, as they are generally not the most experienced of the bunch.

I welcome the ripping, so bring it!

This kind of reminds me of the folks in church who like to sit around complaining "how dare that woman wear such a short skirt to Sunday School!" Then they position themselves directly across fromt he offender for a better look! I love irony. I never complain. Those ladies keep things spicy for us!

Oh boy... I'm gonna do time for these bad thoughts..

Motorman,
Glad to hear you are healing quickly. I had already seen the pictures before the I saw the thread. It looked a little gruesome. There is a forum under the "airplane" section, then "crash and rebuild" section, and then there is a section called "prop bitten". It looks like a perfect fit to me.
Again, glad to hear you are doing well.

Guitarman, hope you heal quick and get back in the saddle soon.

Take care and God Bless you my friend.
Don't pay no never mind to the haters.. In Spnish we call them Amargados!!

Hopefully, they are safe at all times and don't get into an accident that we all will have at one point or another; and then come back and show us the irony of what just happened to them..

You keep posting Bud... I'm with you on sharing the experience openly so we all can learn from such complaisancy.. Sometime we do thing with such a routine that we take short cuts and then we get bit in the ass.. Safety is paramount..
