Small update:
I made ducting for the oil cooler. Underneath there is a hole for hot air to go from the motor and ESC



I hope to have it up and ready during this week

Status: offline 		Wow, I got my wing together with the servos and retracts installed. I don't have the LG doors or the "belly pan" on yet, but so far the wing weighs a hair over 5 pounds! I have to think that is typical, but it surprised me to feel the weight of the wing! BTW this is with Sierra retracts. Jon

Five pounds on a wing this size with retracts and flaps is not out of line at all. Pretty light actually!

Status: offline 		HELP pls...still looking for some help. I think the large tank sent to me by Sierra is too big. I had to saw away part of the bulkhead under the servo tray to slide the tank in there, and then the center servos will hit the that tank. Hmmmm, so I am thinking of getting a smaller tank, however I wonder if they have volume enough for the Sierras? Anybody with any ESM planes having the same prob and what was your solution. I would be grateful for some help. Jon

Status: offline 		I have the ESM 72" Spitfire. I use a standard size air tank with my Robart retracts and can get ten cycles on one air charge. I don't own any Sierra retract gear, but I don't see why you should need a large air tank.  I have  large tank for my GS TF Corsair, but it's a 86"WS and will be close to 30LB and uses the Robart gear made for it.

Try a regular size air tank and see how many cycles you get. If you get five solid cycles, that should be good enough.  You can always add air after each flight, and in fact should do that anyway.

I will try to send a pic of my Spit set up when i get home.

Status: offline 		Bob H, I get the sneaking suspicion the plane will turn out tail heavy, so I want to put the tank at or forward of the CG, not behind, thus above (when the plane is upright) the servo tray.

Me410, thanks for advice on the Robart tank. I will look it up...what size is yours? I only ask because itemss change over time. Would like to see your layout, so thanks for posting a pic, in advance. Jon

Status: offline 		I haven't done much work on mine...only tried to mount the Zenoah 26. It didn't fit completely in the cowl. I think i have the larger Robart tank. It should fit ok, but that's next.

What I call a standard Robart air tank is about 6 1/2" tall and about 1 3/4" across.

While we all try to keep as much weight forward with a warbird, I think one of the things you can cheat on is the air tank. It's very light, but also bulky. Most of my planes have the tank  behind the COG, so I have more room to get the heavy stuff forward.

BTY, that "stick" taped to the tank is to help secure the tank, the stick slides into a slot at the rearward bulkhead and then the velcro strap wraps through the attachment glued to the fuse  and keeps the tank from going anywhere.

Status: offline 		The pics are helpful Me410, so thanks. That really illustrates how huge my tank is compared to yours. Mine looks more the size that ed42d shows in his plane. So I measured mine...it is 9 1/2" long by 2 1/2" diameter. I think I will be ordering a smaller tank from somewhere. Your pics also show me your valve installation, which is helpful. Thanks again. Can I get a report on how you all like or dislike your KI84? I'm getting ready to move back to Oahu, so I need alittle something from the Pacific theater of operations I think. I would love an 80" Zero, but it's not been released as of yet(rumored to be in development though)

So the Ki84 it will be, unless you all tell me it flys like a turd. I'm an electric guy, so I would be going that direction as well. What is the average weights on your builds? Sierras still available I assume?
Pros and cons of this kit?

Had mine for a year or so, flies like a beaut. Powered by eflite power160 on 10s 5000mAh ( 2x5s ) 18x12 turnigy cherry wood prop, could go larger but is adequate at 1440 Metres asl where I fly here in sunny south africa. Just a tad over 7kg flying weight. Using esm retracts, so far so good even tho flying off grass field. Be aware that the pull-pull wires supplied are not the best you could use. I think this has been mentioned earlier in this thread.
Fitted Ty's cockpit kit too. Looks good.
Good machine, I think you will like it.

thank you sir! Thats exactly what I hoped to hear. I too will use the same setup as you have, (Eflite 160, CC HV120, TP 5000mAh 5 cell x2) Its a great setup ,I have it in 3 other planes as well.

Now to get Ian Radshaw to show me how he weathered his(on VQ's site)

Mine will probably stay in the box until I get moved back to Hawaii. I already have to build crates for 6 other giant scale warbirds...

Status: offline 		thanks glazier808. the weathering I did with testors aluminum paint a small brush and several hours lol, I also pulled out my old airbrush kit and just went nuts adding the rest of the weathering.
today was her maiden and she did great with the CG set at 105mm however I did need allot of down trim, not because she was tail heavy but because I installed the motor right side up so the
motor sits below the center line so im gonna add more down thrust, but once she was trimmed she flue flawlessly.
