Hey microdon2,

Nice set of planes.  I myself have both revolvers as well.  I have the revolver 59 with an OS max 46 and the revolver 70 with an OS MAx 95AX.  I would have put a biger engine on the revolver 59 lie an os 55 but truth was that I had a perfect and almost new os 46 and I just couldn't spend more money when I already had an engine there. On the other hand, the big revolver flies great with the 95AX.  Great speed with an APC 14X6 prop and great climb as well.  She goes to about 10400 RPM's with the 14X6. and idels just around 1900 RPM's. She definately go faster with an APC 13X7, with just a bit less of a climb.  But I have to tach it next time to see the RPM's Anyway,..here is a not so great picture of the two the last time I took my two  BOYS ( revolvers ) out for a flight.  Next time I go flying I will take better pics and more video.  Don't know if you have seen my revolver 70 maiden flight but i copied the link in the bottom in case you hadn't.

Afjet - I"m using an APC 16x7 now, have also used an APC 16x8 - think that produced a bit more speed. I think if you want more speed you'd go with a 15x10. I do like the speed and vertical of the 16x7. Haven't tached it, though. I just called Tower to ask the difference between Pattern and Sport props - was put on hold for 5 mins, and, in the end, they just said it has something to do with the shape. So much for tech support!

I think I'll have the LHS order me an APC 16x7.  I was really trying to figure out what would be a good all around rpm figure. The 16x8 seemed to lug it a little on the acceleration and 9,700 seemed like it might be a little too high with the 16x6. Some at my field have suggested a 17x6.  This prop stuff confuses the hell out of me. Thats why I love my helicopters. Just make your own pitch and fly the snot out of it.  I assume the 16x7 you have is the pattern prop?     I am also flying the 59" Rev with the recommended electric setup.   6s with an 11x7.  She cooks along pretty good. My landings are fast and crappy though.

Afjet - Yes, the APC 16x7 and 16x8's offered on Tower are Pattern props, which is what I've been using. Haven't compared to Xoar yet, though many say Xoar are superior. I'm fine with APC for now. Just noticed on Tower that the APC 16x6 is a Sport prop - again, don't know the diff. Though, looking at the specs, I now see that the prop hub thickness is .5 inches for the pattern Prop and .6 inches for the Sport. Think I'll do a little Google research just for kicks.

Flyboy - nice video, and good maiden. Yes, your plane moves well with that OS 95. (though your cameraman sounds a little edgy...) Good luck with your Rev 70.

I know,,..he's my 14 y/o son.  He did his best and I think a good job at keeping up with the plane.  It's not as easy as it looks when you have a 2" view screen and a very fast moving plane to catch.  Actually, that was his best video yet.   Ca't fly right now.  I lost my jet ( HABU ) the other day and almost lost the revolver.  I thought it was receiver problems but I'm almost sure it is the DX7.  I am buying a DX7s when it comes out or maybe even a DX8.  Man,..haven't flown in more than a week. I'm going through widrawls right now. Can't wait to get my transmitter in ! ! !

I've got the st90 with a pitts muffler installed in my revolver 70 and it does great, good speed and good power when needed.

+1..... I have always been a "if a little is good, more is better" kind of guy when it comes to pretty much anything, especially RC airplanes. To me, a .40 size airplane really means it needs a .60. That said, the ST G-90 is the PERFECT engine for the R70. You're not gonna get a whole lot more speed out of more engine with this airframe, maybe a little better vertical and quicker acceleration on takeoff. Once you start to need tail weight to offset the engine weight, as well as adding weight to strengthen the thing to handle the extra power and weight, you are in the area of diminished returns, IMHO.

All I did was beef up the gear (main and tail) in mine. I have been flogging it like a rented mule since January with the ST G-90 and it's been perfect. Great everyday flyer.

My "go fast" planes are old school ballistic pattern ships. You know you have a screamer when the old guys at the field all step back a few paces when you rev up a Rossi at 14k+ rpm!

Not a problem,..that is how I learned of this system as well, through this forum. It has really taught met a lot of things about building.  It's always good to listen and see other builders / flyers ideas. Enjoy your revolver !  I am surely enjoying mine ! !

I am not trying to change your mind - just trying to learn something. My experience with Robarts has been outstanding, using the centering jig, a counter bore for hinge knuckle clearance, and epoxy or gorilla glue, I can get virtually no hinge gap, and have never had one fail. Why do you not like them, and what about the pinned hinges works better for you.
Thanks

For some reason I end up with a hole big enough to stick a door knob in and wiggle it all around.
I have a bench drill press and several centering devices which somewhat seem to find center.

I have assembled the Byron Originals F-86, 1/3rd scale Pitts, Jap Zero and his P-51 which all require the Robarts. Also the Top Flite P-51, The GP Super Chipmunk.. maybe it is just because I don't care for them.

A buddy once told me to just poke the hole with a ice pick and be done with it. I tried that also
but just do not seem to get them in straight and nice.

Even to a couple of lessons from the local expert. He (Earl) even told me to go back to DuBro HD's.

I can cut a straight line but can't drill a straight round hole to match the one in the other half of tlhe surface.

Sounds wild but that is the way it works out for me.

Thanks for your interest though.

Cheers

Please don't believe you're the only one using pinned hinges. Don't want to start anything so I'm not going into why.

I fly with a group of guys that build some sweet 50cc and up planes and few of them are die-hard dubro pin hinge guys. I have looked at their airplanes and am amazed at how they get those pinned hinges to look so nice. Just a matter of preference as to what each person likes.

GSNut - I have the hole-centering device sold by Tower for the Robart hinges and it hasn't worked very well for me. So I just punch the holes by hand, using a very small Phillips-head screwdriver. I get very good centering results this way.
