I started off with a 120ax in mind but I love the sound of four strokers. I was originally thinking about the 150 saito but the 180 came in a bit lighter...depending on the web site you are on. I also found that the Saito 180 is a tad lighter than the O.S.120 fsII Surpass.
One thing for sure is this thing is gonna have power to spare.
You guys with the 91s, what is your average flight time?

Quite a few people considering the Magnum .91 RFS. I'm guessing because it is on sale for $140. I'm also considering this power plant so I'm curious to hear a flight report from one of you guys.

I'd be happy to give a flight report but I have to get the plane first!
I got the engine with Christmas money.
And yes, it is still on sale at HobbyPeople.net for $139!
The Magnum 180 is also on sale for $289 for any one who needs more power!
I'm hoping to get the plane in January with a end of year bonus from work...one step at a time.

Servos are the other purchase that I need to make...what torque rating does the Large Revolver require for the servos?

Mike,

Right now my flight time is only 5 to 7 mins. Thats how long my fingers can stand the cold weather!! This past weekend, I did 9 mins and almost lost the plane!! My fingers was so cold I could not feel the sticks. The landing was not hard, but, was not smooth!!! When the weather get better, I will post my flight time. I know you have seen the Blue Angel do they Max Takeoff. Where they do the take off, keep the plane just above the runway. At the end of the runway, stand the plane on its tail and hit the burner. I know you are looking for that!!! I say go for it!!!

I know it's Winter and all, but I'd sure like to see this thread continued. How fast does this Large Revolver fly? I mean, is it a good platform for simply burning up the sky with speed? I watched a small Revolver (electric) on Youtube that did 160MPH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL_ZbFv0xFE Is this typical of the Large Revolver's speed capability?

Hi Widget;

I have both Revolver and to me the small one is faster than the big one. I have them both pack in my suv for the trip to the club field for some winter fun!! The sun is out with blue skies and no rain in sight. We don't get to many days like this here in the Great North West. I know the field will be full today!! Go to Great Plane website and you will see the large revolver on their video. The one in the vid is using the same engine that I have in mines. A OS Max 91II FS, ( 4 stroke ). One thing good about the large revolver, it do slow down for landing and thats a big plus!!! The small one can be a pain to slow down.
Got to run now, the sky is calling me!!!
Have a great day everyone!!!

Jet22b, I hear truth is, when you live in Olympia, you actually have snorkels attached to your engines so you can fly in all that RAIN!!! I know what I'm saying, 'cuz not only do I frequent your area quite often (we contract to the DOD, Bangor, Keyport, etc), but I also live just south of you down in Medford OR. I have watched the Large Revolver vid a bunch and it does look docile to land. I guess ya can't have it both ways, eh? I have my own runway here on my 10 acres, dirt, but gettng a full 300' to land is an art-form. Its more like I need to get the plane stopped in about 200' most the time, so the Large one will probably do me better. Plus, that 1.20AX on the small one would look funny... Yes. Runway Project X-Tend is in the planning stages, but neck surgery in a week has us and our funds in a holding pattern for this year... Yes... "Us". I have a sweet bride of 35 years that fully supports my hobby.

I just bought the larger Revolver. I am on tight budget so I am going to use a 2-stroke. I bought this plane for general sport flying and aerobatics, don't want a speed demon and don't need unlimited vertical. Is an O.S. 61FX enough engine for this airplane or do I need an O.S. 75AX?

Thanks,
Tony

I would say get a 2nd job delivering pizza or something and get a bigger engine. I usually buy engines to meet the "flying weight" of said ARF, and the Large Revolver is in the 9lb range. If all I can afford is a OS 61, I would have stayed with the smaller Revolver with a 55AX or so myself, BUT, since you have the Big Guy already, why not think about a Super Tiger 90 ($139.98 Tower) instead. Here's a link to the exact set-up I am talking about, which in fact looks to fly SO good that itchanged my mind to the point that I'm putting my 91FX in the Large Revolver and selling my new 1.20AX, Slimline Pitts, a Mac muffler and Dubro Soft Mount for it ($300 shipped!).... Here's the Youtube link:

Tower has this spec for engine on the Revolver 70:

Engine .61-.75 (10-12.5 cc) two stroke OR .81-.91 (13.5-15 cc) four stroke

so your O.S. 61FX is definitely on the low end of the range.
I think I would go with the .75.

Is there enough ground clearance with the bigger props for the big engines? An O.S. 75AX will swing a 14" prop. Is there enough ground clearance? Thanks for the input on the Super Tigre but I am a huge fan of O.S. engines so my choices are either the 61FX or the 75AX.

Thanks,
Tony

The guy that is flying the Large Revolver with the 91 two stroke is on this thread.
His screen name is frankeldan. He has posted his whole setup here. Take a look back for more info. For the one good day we had this past weekend, I had a ball with the large revolver. I want to see how slow I could get her to fly and I was shock!!! The stall is so smooth, the nose just drop and you are flying again, but I would not do it close to the ground. She is fast and she will slow down for landing!!!

Tony;

I have a 14x6 prop on my large revolver with lots of ground clearance. So your 14" prop will be okay!!

You could also buy the ST .75. $129.99 and the same weight. Just $10 less expensive. At $109.98, the TH .75 is a good pick also, but not due until late March 2010. I have one and it has a lot of power with a 12x8, but does better with a 12x6, or 11x7 / 8 for speed.

Thanks for the input. I guess I will go with the 75AX. It is always good to have a little extra power. Hopefully the 75AX does not drink the fuel too bad. I have never setup spoilerons before. What needs to be done for spoileron setup?

Thanks,
Tony

Your 75ax will not guzzle fuel. If you use a 14" prop on the 75 it tends to over work on the top end of a big loop. If you plan on keeping with the 14" prop I would do a 14X4 apc. Top end of that motor is 16k. Try to keep your rpm around 13k static. I have one and the props that OS recommends do not do the motor justice. This motor likes to wind up... Or at least mine does.

The .75AX does not like the pitch, neither does the .55AX. My 55AX ran bad with the recommended 12x7 / 8 props, and so have many others at my field. 12x6 or 11x7 are great on the .55AX. I just had to pay HobbyServices this morning for some work on my .55AX because I've been having issues running the larger, big pitch props, and it got to the engine. I didn't think my problem was due to the props, but 1/2 of them were, and IAW HobbyServices 1/2 probably from using PowerMaster 15% with only 18% oil. I think the AX probably needs more oil, so I'll switch to 20%. In the meantime, I'll buy some Klotz to add. I read David Gierke's fuel article in MAN recently and it explains why we probably need more Castor & Synthetic in our 2S which are not ringed than we usually get in standard blends that some hobby shops carry. The PM 15% w/18% oil is the most common sold in my area because some of the older flyers have said that "the specs are the specs & the minimum should be OK".
