I am getting ready to purchase the retracts for my TF Seafury. I know CJM makes some scale double strut retracts for this plane, but I'm not so sure about the quality of the CJM gear for the price. The plans call for Robart 605's, but I am considering Spring-Air. I like the idea that the gear will come down if the system loses pressure, but what do they look like? I can't seem to find their website. And how is the quality of Spring-Air products? Lastly, does anyone have another sugguestion for this plane?

Thanks,
Russ.

Russ:

Spring Air's website is www.retracts.com. I'm not sure how they compare to the new CJ types with the double strut but Spring Air, I believe, has a good reputation for durability and CJ has had some issues in the past.

Hey Russ! when are we going flying?

Anyways I'd go with Spring Airs and some Robart Robostruts.... The new 500 series are great for TF 1/7 scale warbirds and functional robostruts will smooth out the landings....

Vic,
Soon as I can get my plane done Spring-Air's with the Robostruts is kind of what I had in mind. I think that's the same combo Evan used on his WM P-51.

Thanks guys. Talk to you later,
Russ.

Thanks Chad, I found it. What I meant above was that before Matt posted the link, I searched everywhere but couldn't find anything but mattress sites. I think Spring-Air needs to register their site with the search engines.

Russ.

My bad Russ, should'a read a bit more carefully! Spring Airs are top notch by the way. Good luck with your Fury, Chad.

Hi,
I have also have the Sea Fury on the board, also my choice for the gear system is definitly Spring-air. I have three sets of #703, the advantage with those is that the struts fits diretky into the retact, This avoid the pain of the neck drilling and threading the strut. For scale struts, I spoke with bill from Spring-air and he has a company to manufacture the scale struts to fit Spring-Air retracts, don't have the name with me now but e-mail me to get the #.

Okay guys, this morning I called Spring Air to order the the retracts for my TF Seafury. I believe I spoke to Bill Watton, who recommended the 704's to go with the Robart RoboStruts.

Now I am looking at Robart's site, trying to figure out which RoboStruts I need. I thought I would go with the #671's (500 series) because I like the look of the larger diameter struts. I am a little confused about something in there spec drawing - it says:

Retract Mounting- 3 1/4" max. removable
Must also cut lower strut tube

Gear Wire Mount- 2 1/2" Max. removable for wire mount

What does this mean? Will these struts fit in the 704's?

Thanks,
Russ.
