Which battery cycler do you guys think is good, and is dependable. I'm looking into investing in one, and don't know which one I should get. Right now I'm running NiCads.

Thanks for you help - Brian

If you want just a cycler, the Super Test by Sirius Electronics is the best. If you also want a charger, the Super Turbo does it all. Check the other posts regarding the Super Turbo.

Evan is right.............the SuperTester will discharge your packs down.....then you can charge them with the charger that came with you Radio System. The SuperTurbo will charge any battery combination from 1 to 26 cells and discharge your batteries. Very nice unit.........I have one now and ordered another yesterday for charging electric motor packs. The Superturbo is a slow or fast charger, DC to DC. It can only charge one pack at a time, but will do it very quickly so you could charge both your rx and tx in less than two hours if you wanted to.

An Einsten is a good all around charger as well, it will run off your house current with a AC adapter.

A Sirius SuperTester in combination with a Sirius Pro charger will charge 4,5 and 8 cell rx and tx packs very nicely.

I have all the above chargers and they work great.

If I had to recommend a single charger.......it would be the SuperTurbo, like Evan said it basically does it all and at a very good price.

RCAccessory has the best deal on one, 109 dollars and he may still be including a set of banana clips with tx and rx connectors.

The only drawback to this charger is that it has only one charge port, so you will have charge your tx and then your rx. It will cycle your packs and is a very good quality unit. It will require a Ac to DC power supply or you can run it off a car battery at the field.

If you want to get a power supply check some posts on the pyrimid line of ac to dc power supplies.

Cycling your battery packs is worth every penny in equiptment and time...........its the only way you know what the condition of your batteries are. If you dont catch a bad battery pack before it fails it wll without a doubt cause a crash.

I decided to go with a Sirius Charge Pro Series because you can charge your batteries at the field! It also comes with plugs already. Here are my questions:
1. Does this charger work just as good as a trickle charger? (does the battery last as long as it would if I used trickle wall charger)
2. Also how long will it take to charge a 500mAh NiCad?

Thanks for all of you help, I appreciate it!
- Brian

P.S. For now I might just get the Pro charger and not the tester...... would it be ok to cycle my new batteries just by draining my batteries by leaving them on overnight, then charging them the next day? Does it hurt the battery if I do it this every month or so?

Also do you think that the Sirius Charge Pro charges better than the Dymond SuperTurbo?

Someone.....you shouldn't just leave your radio on to cycle...this drains batteries to zero, and some cases less then zero. If by some chance you had a bad cell, it might not return to the capacity that other cells do. In which case your pack will be left with insufficient capacity. The SuperTest will drain them down to a set point every time and no farther, and in doing this it checks the capacity for you and will have a reading of it, and that reading is what you record, and that will tell you what kind of life your getting from your packs, and the condition of your pack.

Myself, I use the AccucyclePlus, it seems to do everything I need, and more. Sirius is said to be one of the best, and the whole system is good, however for my money, I went with AccucyclePlus. It's a very decent unit, and you can get the adapter to field charge if you need to. I use my AC+ for all charging, most of the time I just plug it in night before. It automatically has 50mah charge(same as the wall-wart that your radio comes with), and that lasts 24hrs, then it switches to a 2mah (yes 2), so you can actually leave it alone. I only use the quick charge features when I want a ..yes "quick charge, or when I'm cycling, other then that, I don't need to pump the batteries up that fast.

I still have not seen anyone with an excellent reason why the Sirius is better, although I have no reason to doubt, I have seen these in action, and borrowed one a time or two at the field, but my AC+ works fine, and has several different parameters I can choose.

Ok, thanks for your help DGrant! Sometimes I get a little gullable, and believe everything people say, but most of it could be their own personal preference. You make a lot of sense. I was just thinking about it if my batteries ran out at the field, then that would be a good choice. Besides why get a separate charger and cycler, when you can get one that has both built in. Thanks for your help.

You are comparing Apples to Oranges.

The pro charger is a charger only, limited in battery charging ability. Very high quality unit.

The Turbo can charge any size pack from 1 cell through 26 as well as cycle.

The Turbo does more for less money. The Pro also does not charge your packs to 100%, but to about 80%. I sell both and can tell you I sell over 50 Turbo's to 1 Pro, month after month.

All the Sirius products are excellent, but they are focused for 1 application which they do very well.

The 2 chargers are complimentary to each other.

Someone11,

You are making this harder then it really should be, go back and read through some of the threads. It's possible that you might wend up spending more money in the long run as I did. I went out and purchased a ACE Super charger and found myself a few months later purchasing the Dymond ST.

DYMOND SUPER TURBO...absolutely the way to go! Recently purchased one and am very impressed. Very multifunctional with user adjustable parameters. Also has available (optional) temp probe logic for failsafe operation. You can buy one from Evan for the same price as Dymond...and he might still be including a couple of battery leads for free...which Dymond does not ($5.00 value).

I'm leaning toward the Pro for these reasons; I can charge two packs simultaneously (RX/TX or RX/RX); the design of the Pro is time proven to be rock solid and reliable; ease of use.
It would be nice to have more flexibility but for my needs right now the ability to do two packs outwieghs the discharge/capacity testing that chargers like the ST can do. There is always the Pro Plus upgrade available also that essentially doubles the mAH capacity on both TX and RX outputs if a time comes when we grow into bigger packs.

If someone has any alternatives to the Sirius Pro that fits my criteria I'd appreciate a heads up. So far I haven't been able to find a better choice.
