Sarah -> OS 46 FX - 5% or 10% Nitro (7/2/2003 2:31:18 AM)

I have an OS 46 FX, running an 11*6 APC prop on a 50" low wing sports aircraft (THinder Tiger Giles G-202), and using fuel with 5% Nitro in it (Duraglo). If I usedf fuel with 10% Nitro in it, waht would the difference be and is it really worth it?

I'd be grateful for your comments.

Regards,

Sarah

Mine runs on 15%. Cheaper here in the US. Haven't tried it with less, but it does scream!

What RPM readings are you getting? Maybe that will help to find your answer.

I'd doubt that the difference would be worthwhile considering the cost of nitro in England. Remember that by going to a higher nitro you have to open the needle valve a little more which means your flight times are reduced somewhat. Add the higher fuel consumption to the higher initial price of the fuel and it becomes even less worthwhile.

I've run my 46 FX on 5% for more than 3 years in many different atmospheric conditions without a propblem. I recently switched to 10 % nitro (since I started flying 4 strokes), but I can't say that it made a noticeable difference to the 46 FX.
