IR Emitter in Mantlet
Well it has been awhile since I posted anything helpful here and frankly I haven't been doing much on my hobbies lately, so I thought I would kick start my hobby obsession again. With IR battling on the increase, and my own concerns about the the IR emitters looking out of place on a model I came up with this idea for mounting a removable emitter in the mantlet. Hopefully those of you looking for an easy way to replace an IR emitter will give this a try.
The first pictures show a two prong plug(typical Heng Long style) mounted in the mantlet of a Sherman. Once painted it should almost disappear.
The second picture shows an IR LED mounted in a tube.
The third pictures shows the IR emitter plugged into the mantlet.
The final picture shows how well hidden the set up is after painting
This set up will allow a very easy swap of emitters, with no soldering required. When not battling the emitter can be removed, bringing your model back to a more prototypical look.

RE: IR Emitter in Mantlet
How do you achieve a good alignment with the barrel ? I mean the tube (with the LED) seems to only be attached to the mantlet by the LED itself. So it may move a little during driving. Also, how to you now the good polarity for the LED ? A hidden mark somewhere ?

Actually the set up is pretty solid, and does not flop around. Polarity is simple. If it doesn't work plugged in one way, then plug it in the other!!!!!!!
