I just finished a Lanier Stinger 60 ARF which was ordered from Tower Hobbies just 2 weeks ago.

The packaging was superb, the covering is tight and well done and needed no further ironing. The cowl and wheel pants are fiberglass, a little thin but very nicely painted. The instructions are adequate. I feared the tail and stab would be too light to withstand the stresses but once the flying wires were added it became nice and tight. The wing fit together nicely with 30 minute epoxy.

I used a Thunder Tiger .91 four stroke for power using a leftover sig mount as I did not trust the given mount (very light). Two degrees right thrust were put in according to instructions. I also choose to use all the supplied hardware. The plane without the servos mounted was very nose heavy but expected with the weight of the engine used. The supplied 16 oz tank was mounted as far back as I could get it to be nearer the center of gravity.

I made a balsa floor within the turtle deck and mounted the battery wrapped in bubble wrap there and used hitec HS 475 BB servos all around. My only complaint in mounting the servos in the called for location in the fuse is the rear screws were hard to reach and I had to angle them in a little. Two ounces of tail weight were added to bring the balance to 4" from the leading edge of the wing and 1/2 ounce on the right wingtip for lateral balance. The supplied star decals were distributed to make the plane similar to the picture on the box. I have not weighed the finished plane but would estimate it to be under 8 pounds.

The plane was brought down to the local club for it's maiden. An APC 13X8 prop was mounted in a 2 1/2 pro-turn spinner and the engine was dialed in. Rates were set at the recommended low rates for the first flight.

Two passes were made down the runway to check the ground handling. She tracks nice and straight with no tendance to nose over. On the third pass into the wind it was airborn in about 50 feet at half throttle.

This plane was meant to fly! Two clicks left and 3 down and she was straight as an arrow. A few passes were made to get a feel for it and the throttle was opened up a little. Rolls are almost axial, the rudder is very effective and loops were a little big at low rates but perfect inside and out. This plane is as easy to fly as my four star 60, but just a tad faster.

A few low speed passes were made to check out the stall charactoristics. This plane flys as well slow as fast, it stalls straight ahead and pops back up with a bump of the throttle. Landing was anti-climatic, just brought her in at just above idle and killed the throttle for a landing on the mains and a short roll out. What an easy plane to land!

All in all about 6 flights were made. The sticky star decals are all peeling off however, they will be removed at some point and replaced with something else.

I'm very happy with this purchase, it would make a excellent second plane with lots of room to grow into. It's so light that a good 60 2 stroke would be and excellent choice of engine. Up to a 90 2 stroke is recommended, it would be a rocket with that setup.
