I'm having trouble with my T-Maxx trans, I can't keep gears in it. I've had it apart 5 times now, always the same gear, 4998, the reverse output gear. I contacted T-Maxx support, they were good enough to send me another set of gears, (set # 3), not sure what to do next. My daughter and a friend of mine both have trucks we all bought at the same time, no problems with theirs. Maybe I just got a lemon, my engine is toast too, the head was leaking, tried to tighten the head screws, 2 of them were stripped.......Coop

wow, does anyone make metal ones? I stripped a gear in mine once, but I have the novarossi in mine so I expected it to.

blow the engine up and send it back to traxxas, have you talked to them about it yet?

Yea....I wish I could find metal gears, maybe going to have to look at the Robinson aluminum gearboxes, don't knmow if the gears are nylon or not. I am going to see if I can send the engine in for warranty repair, I put an OS CV-X .12 back in it, ( had one I didn't use in an RC-10GT), doesn't seem to have as much low end punch, but I wouldn't expect it to being a .12, I want to try the OS .15 CV-R, at 1.1 HP, it should have enough power....if I can get the trans problem fixed first.....Coop

Well....I think I found the problem....I got it all back together, after looking everything over and trying to fiquire out what was happening, only thing I could come up with was the trans was sometimes getting into forward and go-behind at the same time, stripping the reverse gear. I looked at the linkage that operates the direction. looked like it was just barely pulling it into forward position. Maybe when I am on rough ground, it was getting into both gears at the same time due to the bouncing around. I tightened up the spring tension on the linkage, and used the trim on the radio to make the servo pull the shifter out with more pressure. I thought about putting a wheel collar on the shifter shaft to lock it in forward, but I do use reverse once in a while. We'll see what happens, it works now, time will tell........Coop

Well...After about a half tank of fuel since putting this trans back together last night...I blew another gear .....Guess I'll get ahold of Traxxas Support tomorrow and see what they can tell me. I started having this problem right after I installed the MIP CVD axles and shafts, can't imanagine why that would cause a problem....Coop

Ok Guys....I know what is wrong, thanks to Chris at Traxxas Tech Support, (Thanks Chris),...About 3 weeks ago I had to replace the spool in the rear differantal, the screws had broken off that hold the spool to the ring gear. Anyway, I tore the front diff out also just to check the screws for being tight. After I got the truck all back together, I had to reverse the forward-reverse servo reversing switch to make the truck go forward. I fiquired I had bumped the switch somehow. Right after this I started eating trans output gears. It seemed odd to me I was stripping the reverse gear, but the truck would still go backwards, not forward. After talking to Chris this morning, he fiquired out I put my diffs in upside down, thats why I had to reverse my servo direction to go forward. So, moral to the story, be careful how you re-install the diffs in your truck, the heads of the screws that hold the diff cases together have to be on the left side of the truck in the front, and on the right side of the truck in the rear,(viewing the truck from the rear).....Coop

Coop,
Glad to hear you got your truck together and working properly. You said that you had a bad engine also. My advice, go with the OS .15 CV-RX if at all possible. I am about through breaking mine in and it is going to be a monster. This thing flies now and I am still running it real rich. I have no regrets spending the extra dough for OS quality.

Yea...I plan on getting the OS 15 for it, should have lots of power then. I have always liked the OS engines, that is all I run in my helis. I asked Chris at Traxxas if the stock trans and diffs would handle the power of the OS engine, he said it wouldn't be a problem. I have to turn the diffs around, now all I have to do is talk myself out of installing the aluminum diff cases and trans case while I have it apart.. ...Coop
