I would love twin 90mm in here!!

Well, I removed the hatch for the duct mounting. Also discovered why this jet was lacking so much power, see pics of motor!!
now the hatch didn't come off great, thats because I had the elevators already installed, so on a new kit it would be no issue.

So is there a science as to how much tube you should have after the fan, and the decrease in diameter or coning?

I am going to have to shave some material away to ge the new fan to fit in flush, So I wonder if I should line up fan to fan or find a better location for the new unit.

I can't wait to see the increase in power! I hope this thing is too fast!

I didn't order anything for the landing gear, I am going to inquire about the stock one, Or order new ones, funds are tight at the moment though, so I am going to rig them to be static and always out. Won't look good but it will work until I figure out a solution.

Oh yah, should I attempt balancing the fans?

Got the new fans!! Well, I think with this fan and motor, I should have at least TWICE the thrust I had with the stock setup.

Some photos and some for comparison.

So first issue, is the motor barely fits, so I have spent about 45 minutes sanding by hand the inside of the motor mount. Unfortunately no screws were provided with the engine (female connectors were though) , So I will have to go to the LHS tomorrow for screws. Also the shaft for the motor is a mm or 2 larger than the adapter, a 1/8 drill bit solved that!

So I will begin mounting fans, or figuring out how I will do so later tonight and tomorrow. I hope to get this baby in the air for the weekend, its going to be above freezing this weekend!!!

Note in last picture, one fan came with indents on the inside of the tube and a small dent on one of the four mounts, free of charge!!

This shouldn't be too hard, one is dry fitted (on bottom) Once I have good fit, I will see how much strength I have taken out, and maybe add some cf rod.

For the exhaust tube about 85% of the fan dia. is a good place to start. I wider opening gives you better static thrust and a smaller opening gives you better dynamic thrust wich is better top end.

I was just wondering, I have the same kit and in one box they gave me about 15 fan blades. if you were losing power why didn't you replace the blades if they were chipped? Please take videos of the flight.

Thanks Gunradd, I think I will try to make myself one and try it out.

I too recieved a box full of fans and mounts. I was thrown off, wondering why I would need so many spares. I think the nick in the blade is a minor part of the lack of power. As you can see, the included motors are TINY. and you'll see In my flight vid the Jet is not a speedy one in stock form. If you haven't assembled it yet, I would order some fans of your choice and upgrade BEFORE you glue the elevators in.

I got proper mounting screws for the motors, 3x4mm with a washer and red loctite for security. Then I mounted the shafts with red loctite on the set screws. Mounted fan using supplied shaft, and red loctite again to hold it on!! And a little loctite on the spinner. Gave them both a test to make sure they are operating before I mount them, Sound smooth, and quite powerful, didnt get over 3/4 throttle because it started to tourque my hand and grip!!!

Just have to clean up the mounting spots and double check the alignment, then modify the cover and then she is almost there!! Still have to rig the landing gear for the next flight. Will be ordering a new system soon, just have to sell something first for the funds!!

Troadus, Have you flown yours yet? any vids? what do you think of the kit?

OK, they are installed. BUT, I had to rush the top peice and I should have glued the center, then the outsides. Also there is a small hole in the tube from where the original mount was, Dont know if its a bug problem or not.

I get alot of vibration over 50% throttle, and the black ends and final cover fell off (friction fit). So after some more testing I found if I can sandwich the top to the bottom helps hold things. The vibration is probably from the fans and my drilling of the adapters. Not too sure how I can sandwich or clamp the top and bottom....

PICS:

I had to extend wires, so just to show my solder joint, it is a butt connection, which IMO is the best in this case.

OK, more glue and it seems more solid. On my power test though, one motor seem to cut out at 1/2 throttle. What I fear is the fan is slipping on the shaft. Which means tearing this beast apart. It WILL NOT go back together as well if thats the case.

After the one cuts out, I continue to full throttle and the one fan smooths out big time, most vibration is at lower rpm.

I will try to program the ESC's again and make sure its not my cause, or swap motors with esc and see if its the fan or esc.

well, weird..... I swapped ESC's and both stayed on fine to full throttle. As soon as I hit 3/4 the fans smooth out and sound great!!! Guess i'll be going full throttle everywhere anyway!!!

I made a lil vid, mainly just for the sound. just need to upload.

Now I can see if I can salvage this landing gear or not......

Ok is a test vid and final assembly pics...again..

My extra glue for solidity!

My ghetto landing gear, ty-rap stength! Air pump disconnected.

Front view of fans, have to tape or glue that servo lead..

Ready for test flight. I sure hope there is an improvement!

Yes tightened up the wheels!!

She made it in the air..... not so much back down though! The speed was not much better than stock, I didnt have a tube on it though. Flight went good, smooth and a little faster and tail heavy. I stalled it a couple times, and almost lost it over some buildings. So after another circuit, I decided to land it. Well, I cut power too soon and ended up stalling about 20ft up and then nose down into the street. Only broke into 3 pieces, nose cone, main fues, and tail section held on with the wiring!!

Vid of take off and flight , Vid ended before crash, rookie cam man!!

Pics of the aftermath:

That's terrible. It could be such a good bird too but must be really heavy or something. I was thinking about getting one cause it was the most scale foamie I could find but I think I my get a starmax f-18 instead. I liked the size of this one though

Maybe if this had twin 70mm it would be good enough power. Or If I didnt cheap out and get some better fans/motors.

I think I will fix it, ONLY FOR A SPECTACULAR CRASH!!!! on film!! I will do a nose dive into the ground and see how she likes it!!! Maybe even push 6S lipo through it!!

The fans I added, added more weight in the rear, and I wasnt easily able to move the batts more forward without modding the canopy. The power seems slightly improved, but not enough for what I wanted. I think 500kv motors would serve these fans better on 3S.

I will test the 3900kv's on 6S lipo and see what happens as far as thrust!
