hapflap,
I would like to thank you for involving SPADs as a topic. The negativity in the thread is just history repeating itself. Thanks again.

Jim,

Dude you have to go to the spad web pages and check out some of the things the guys there have done. I have been doing this for a bit now, and it still surprises me what talent some of these guys have.

As far as a skewed poll, I have this to say: a vote or an election is generally not a true representation of the populace, it's a representation of those in the populace who bothered to vote. That's just the way it is. The Clubhouse isn't hidden, you know, it's a rather popular spot on RCU. If this were a mandatory poll of all RCU members, than ARF would be batting a thousand leaving all other choices in the dust...however, I will say that of the remaining choices, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Spad were #1. It really wouldn't.

When I coined the phrase "SPAD Jihad" I didn't know how right I was. Family? More like religion. Why do you guys get youself so worked up over other peoples opinions that don't effect you one little bit. Build'em, fly'em, share the experiance and stop this us against them siege mentality.

Half the reason others bash SPADs is it gets some of you guys in such a tizzy it's hilarious. I have bashed SPADs and I have 2 of them out in the garage and I'm promoting them at the field where I fly cause they serve a niche in our hobby.

How come the pylon guys or IMAC or any other specialty in our hobby does not get nearly as defensive about their particular method of enjoying RC?

Tattoo is the only SPADer that I've seen embrace the bashing and not take it as a personal affront so as to turn the bashing around to a positive. He challanged me in a round about fashion to build a SPAD and I did and I thank him for it.

I knew I would get a lot of snide comments at the field so I had graphics cut and named my first SPAD so as to cut off those remarks and make them a joke. I was waiting for a PIC to post but what the heck, I named it "THE FLYING TURD". It gets a lot of laughs and instead of saying it looks like crap the naysayers say how good it fly's for a turd! And then they ask me to build them one.

So wise up guys and drop the defensive posture cause your just inviting more abuse, embrace the bashing and turn it around to a positive and you'll be a lot happier.

Read a litle closer;
I'm not a SPAD basher, if anything I bash the "us vs them, SPAD family" conspiracy theorists.

Now those evil ARFing instant gratification types, that's another matter.

I won't go so far as to say that it's ugly, but it's deffinately not MY cup of tea, Jim. It seems the concept of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is one you refuse to recognize. When I was young, my parents owned a 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo. To me, and most other people, it was a ugly behemoth, it was all hood and no trunk, I shudder to remember it. When we sold it in 89, it was in almost pristine condition, and you wouldn't believe how many people beat a path to our door over that whale. Seems it's a coveted model and year. Go figure. Do you see where I'm going with this, for the millionth time?

Jim,

I was just commenting on your comment that you liked the jet ben put up. The only person i scare is my wife when I order more flight kits for more planes.
As far as a skewed poll,
I don't see why it is skewed, The results surprised the person that stared the thread. However, I would think it would be interesting to see this question taken RCU wide. That would be cool. How about it moderators? Can it be done?

BasinBum,Go into any specialized topic of RCU, be it Pylon, or combat, or whatever, and respond to a thread with a valid reponse, but somewhere in that response include some bashing. What do you think is going to happen? I bet you named your plane the turd because you were embarassed of it, and that was how you figured you'd justify it's existance, by turning it into a flying joke. That's a school yard tactic a thousand years old. Spad is nothing to be embarassed of, fly it with pride.

You want to know why we are so defensive?

The majority of Spad bashing is really meant to somehow diminish Spad as an equal choice for R/C enjoyment, the same thing ARF flyers went through, and still do up to a point. This gets my hair up, because I do put time and effort into my Spads, they give me hours of pleasure, and it irks me to see others attempt to place them into some lower category of R/C, almost like the model ghetto or something. You're all flying real models, we're tossin' silly plastic toys. It's ridiculous. This is where the defensive posture comes from.

I never had a SPAD, maybe because I like scale and love to build.

But believe the name of the game is to have fun.

I do respect all aspects of our hobby and believe SPAD is as good as anything else in the R/C world.

No... do you? :

This is getting silly, and far off topic.
I think the original point that SPAD is simply a material, not some new revolutionary type/religion/revelation is the most useful point in this thread. If you care to restrict yourself to it and "get your hair up" when someone ribs you about it, I hope you don't wander into a Slimers vs. electric or 'plankers' vs whirlybird thread, you might suffer a cardiac. :

Heaven help us if the SPAD generation "discover" electric power or ... ... build a glider (excuse me, sailplane).
