Thought it might be interesting to see what the results would be of just a general poll of the users on what they prefer to use. This is not meant to be a "bash that which you don't like" poll, but an honest poll of what you prefer. Thanks, Dave

Kits are cool, scratch building is fun, ARFs are kind of frusterating, but have their place.

P-51B -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 12:40:32 AM)

Almost a great poll!

ARC and ARF are basically the same thing. And SPAD is a material, like balsa, not a type like arf or KIT built. Also, it seems their should either be a "plans built" or "design my own" depending on your definition of "scratch".

I mostly build from kits, but I aspire to do some designing an build from plans when I have the space etc...so I voted for SCRATCH!!! :bananahea

P-51B, The reason I chose those breakouts was: For ARC ( and I don't really have a good feel for how common they are), but they give the builder a chance to inspect/modify the structure without the pain of uncovering first, but also allow the end user to pick a unique covering scheme (or I would suppose those are the reasons one would chose an ARC). As for SPAD's, yes it's an alternative material, but not a conventional one, in the sense of what I see most using. As for the Scratch, your right, I probably should have split the Plans vs Own Design, so I am going to make that split now. thanks, Dave

Oops, not an option for me to mod the poll, oh well. dave

P-51B -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 1:25:46 AM)

I wouldn't worry about it. After all, you would just have to add bearmech's suggestion, and that would get all the votes! :D :D

By the way, it is a good poll.

A Man after my own heart. My only regret is that there are so many fliers who don't know the joy of this airplane!

I have an old Ultra sport 60 half built...does that count? :confused:

Nitro Blast -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 3:11:51 AM)

My favorite plane type has nothing to do with build.

I dont care if its an ARF,RTF, Kit, Spad, or piza box.

I like insane control type ships. Planes Like the Dazzler, Yard Dart, Stick-It and so forth.

Monster sized control surfaces, huge throws, and powerplants that make them work well. I like the stuff most folks cringe at when in flight. Hard to control is fun to control.

Stable is BORING, but thats just me.

Art, you mean "Maryann Barnes???" :eek: :D

I like the SPAD route, because of the wide spectrum available: Design and scratch-build, build from plans on the SPAD site, build from kits, or buy an ARF like the Talon at Plastic Concept Planes.

If I want to design or try something new, it ususally only takes a few hours and maybe $10-$20 to have a new bird in the air.

Some day, when I'm a little more steady (and not flying out of a cow pasture), I'll probably build a scale kit again...

Blue skies,

DL

SPAD all the way for me.
SPAD is a concept, you can buy ARF but most are scratch built and a good % of them are sctatch design or at least an adaption of an existing SPAD.

i just love the way you can have an idea today and fly it tomorrow, even if your design sucks all youve lost is a few hours and ten bucks.

GrnBrt -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 4:25:07 AM)

Kits, give me kits!!! I love scale and the more complex the better! Cessna's, Corsair's, Stuka's and on and on!!!!!

Bob Godfrey's 77 inches Ultimate.
The best plane I ever had.

Quicker -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 4:41:33 AM)

SPAD, SPAD, SPAD...

To me a SPAD is just like an ARF. Goes together in under 10 or 15 hours. Best part is I have an almost endless supply of plans and ideas that all work well.

surfimp -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 5:07:49 AM)

SPAD is much more than a building material, it's a whole design ethic/philosophy/cult unto itself. Don't believe me? Check out Spadworld.net ;)

Oh, and I like designing & building my own planes the best, because I can make it just like I like it, but kits or ARF/ARC are by far the most convenient. But nothing beats the build time of a SPAD design!! :D

AtomHeartMother -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 7:17:58 AM)

I've built some wood kits and like those planes very much, but if I have to nail it down to fun per dollar, my spads win hands down. My PQHOR is one of the funnest planes I've ever flown.

Piraro76 -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 7:18:46 AM)

The SPADs got my vote :D

Clean -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 7:22:17 AM)

SPAD is a material
SPAD is Scratchbuilt
SPAD is Kitbuilt
SPAD is plans built
SPAD is ARC
SPAD is ARF

SPAD is a state of mind.

Sooner or later, you will all be SPAD

Soilent Green is made out of SPAD!!!!

Resistance is futile

surfimp -> Your favorite model type (7/3/2003 7:51:51 AM)

All your base are belong to SPAD
