Hi Jim,

We have an overhead propane shop heater and also use a Kerosene Torpedo to warm up the paint booth before painting.

Finally got some more pics,  the machine Gun switch is finished, and the tailfeathers are ready for finish. Notice that gorgeous replacement Zenith height meter, the replacement for the stolen one is in better condition and was graciously donated by our Director of Acquisitions Mike Cilurso from his personal collection.  Mike has a genuine Standard J-1 (full Size) and is building a Thomas Morse Scout replica!

The wing factory continues,

working on #1 wing and beginning rib stitching, and stretching the fabric on wing #2. WE had some extra help today, Rick Andres who builds some gorgeous model airplanes was on hand to help with the fabric stretching and gluing on the reinforcing tapes.

There must be holes in the spar for the aileron cables where they lead to the control horns, correct?

Do the aileron cables descend to the fuselage somewhere near the firewall?

I'm interested because we're trying to convert our Thomas-Morse Scout back to a 'B', which it was originally. Decades ago someone put 'C' wings on it, which have torque tubes like the Nieuport. So now we have to re-create the original cable system. We got a look at the B Scout at Rhinebeck, but only the outside.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim,

The cables only cross the spars behind the pulleys if you dig back through the thread you'll see the photos of the cable runs for the ailerons.  Teh cables actually form a closed loop, with the stick attached to the cables in the lower wings, a balance cable in the upper wings and connecting cables between the ailerons.

I had some stuff I wanted to clean up and finish so I spent last week and this week finishing up some fun sport airplanes to go along with all my scale stuff.   The Sportster Bipe/ Hawker Fury Look alike was done by a guy named John Wolf.   Neat idea and it should be a hoot to fly.

Whaddya think?

LOL

Yah The slow and floaty is a bit more aerobatic along the lines of an Andrews Aeromaster  LOL.
Eventually I'll re-cover it the way I like!   Once the P-6E is done then I have the Gee Bee D to build LOL

Wow talk about getting farther down the road, Paul finished painting the tail feathers Friday and Saturday so of course we had to bolt them on!
Here are the photos. Also Wing #2 is stitched, and taped ready for drain patches and the third Nitrate coat. Mike O'Neal and Gerry Wild finished up the stitching. Here are the pics.

Pics look great, Its amazing how those old style clothes really make you guys look like you walked out of the past.. some period clothing just looks wrong in a newer picture. I suppose Military Uniforms just look OFFICIAL ! great work on the lettering...

I just quickly free handed that on my 1/3 pup, its just wrong enough to look right to me .
Was the original lettering screened on or a hand painted affair? Thought you might know.

Hey there Foodstick,
thanks for the Kudos.
Good stuff LOL. The pup drawings give detailed dimensions and painting instructions for the lettering and stencils.

I've been following this thread with great interest - that's a lovely aircraft being built there. My own 1/3 Pup build overtook yours a little earlier this year and it was maidened last Saturday. I'd share a photo if I could, but I keep getting errors when I try to upload one! Just about all it's lacking in detail is the strut mounted pitot/static head - I wonder if anyone has any dimensions they'd care to share?

Mildred H. now adorns one side,  The center section is ready for clear/Silver/Sanding.

The upper wings are on the way to cover as well.
