the Rumpler was built by Slingsby in the UK in '68 it was intended for the Movie Lawrence of Arabia but not finished in time.   It was used in the Biggles series.  The engine is a Gypsy Major from a Tigermoth or Chipmunk as is most of the underlying structure.

Excellent! That sure must have been a sight back in the day to see those garishly painted airplanes on the flightline and in the air!

Very cool. Is that guy in the second pic holding a transmitter! What a great project. How I would love to be involved in something like that. I always wanted to build a DVII.

Wish all this neat WWI stuff wasn't all located back east! It's actually cheaper for me to take a trip to the UK.

Did you notice the many misfires? That's the S. Smith's timing board that most all the reenactors use in their MGs and their MGs also misfire. I investigated and found the timing error on his board. I didn't like it's functionality and I designed my own gasgun control PCB & chamber. Here's a short video of the first test firing, if you're interested.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgAiaCBOO6o

That firing rate was about 375/min which was too slow at the time. The rates are easily variable, and I set them up for Maxim MG (450-550) rates. My single board will control up to two gasguns too.

Jan,
I am definitely interested in your setup for the Pup.  What is the cost?
Paul doesn't want to have to tear the Ammo Box out of the Triplane to change out the electronics until they quit. Otherwise he would be interested as well.  Also what are you using for regulators?  We keep having a problem with the cheapo bernz-o-matic regulator leaking all of the oxygen when the airplane is at rest.

Thanks!

I'm trying to get a firm price together but as time goes on, its getting cheaper & cheaper by finding more vendors with better prices, but I can say now that the PCB is $170 for single gun operation; $190 for dual gun. I have many boards all stuffed and ready to go, but the chambers & valves & coils are still not firmed up yet on price & availability.
I have found the Smiths Little torch regulators (about $55 each) are great. My system only needs about 7lbs propane and about 10lbs of Oxy for a very loud report (will work fine with less), its way, way more efficient than the system you guys have.
