Hi Z!

Your'e catcing on!!

I DID use servo extensions, but lately I've heard of folks who DIDN'T ... by mounting the receiver nearer the servos.

Something tells me that these folks used brushless motors, and the brushed motors probably introduce more noise which MAY effect the receiver adversly. I was adviised to keep the receiver as far from the motor and ESC as possible. That theory may have changed by now, but it still makes sense to me. You have to mount the motor where it goes, period. Then you can only mount the receiver way out front, (as most do) or way back ... and that could give you the separation you need?!?

Good question?

Happy Constructing,

Russ

Looking at the size 540 that is, this Fussion motor could very well produce enough RF to cause that 2 second cut I've read about if the ESC senses a signal cut and a Heli can fall a long way in 2 seconds. That was a problem I had with the HBird get in a little trouble I'd chop the Throtle like I did in the sim but unlike the sim no CP so no gentle down. Best impresion of a Rock I've ever seen LOL

No Mini Boy I've had some other things come up so my construction has been delayed I should get a start this weekend I hope but it'll be another 2 weeks before my Servos and RX So it'll be painfully slow. ( Old house Old wiring needed Electrican )
So Heli funds a slim to say the least

Oh ... I hear ya!!

It may or may not make a difference, but all you really need to get going (besides time) are the servos, to get the mounting holes and spacers in place. The rest of the electronics go in after ALL the mechanical assembly, balancing etc. is complete.

Make sure the heli is in a safe place, away from all the sparks from the wiring!

Chat later,

Russ

What the ...

I'll be on the side 'till you get organized. You'd be best to begin this heli assembly project when you can have some concentration time, with some peace and quiet.

I MAY be down in the Norwich area for a car show ... in the next weekend or two ... Dodd Stadium? ... I'll keep you posted. Maybe we can hook up!

Chat later,

Russ

Hi Z!

In general, receivers are really not very heavy devices. Assuming that the receiver is compatible with your transmitter, and judging by your pic of the receiver and the gyro, I would guess that it won't make much of a difference ... AND the slightly larger size won't make much of a difference for location or mounting either. My best guess is that the extra weight of the metal gear servos that most folks use would be considerably greater than the extra receiver weight, and nobody seems to worry about the extra servo weight.

Plus, you'll have extra channels to run a rescue winch, drop sky divers and water balloons, take videos and the whole works!!!

For what it's worth,

Russ

I Use a Futaba 128DF RX on my Corona - it's a "standard size" 8 channel receiver so I don't think you'll have ANY problems.

What's more LMH apparently did some load carrying tests and found that the 120 could lift as much as 12oz so the odd 0.5oz/1oz extra in a receiver is nothing. What's more, because it's an FP heli, if you make it heavier it has to spin the blades faster to lift and faster blades = more stable heli so there's actually an argument for actually ADDING some weight to a Corona! (you'll see a mention made of this in the User's manual I think!)

Thanx Wright Flyer, I'm just so used to Parkfliers and my HBird that even 5 to 6 grams has been a concern. Mini Boy I don't know about the skydiver, camera etc. just yet, heck I gota get solid hover after I get it together let alone all that other stuff,But now I'm on the right track and things will start moving

O.K. Z!

Good .. you've got quite a few hours of assembly and balancing time ahead of you. Be sure to yell when you get to the swashplate assembly, and again when you are ready to balance the SUB-rotor.

Chat later,

Russ

COOL!

Lookin' good ... Progress is being made!

Don't forget the wood block (or whatever you have in mind) for the front landing gear support BEFORE you paint (or clear coat or whatever you plan to do) the crutch. The rear gear mount can wait 'till later.

Thanx Russ, yes finally now that I know everythings in place it's just a matter of doing it, I might skip to the head as I forgot to pick up my block material, and I need a good set of shears for that canopy so I don't mess it up. I will use the set-up you have for the VE gear (best I've seen) So the updates will be photos to show the progress, I'm already eyeing the right side of the crutch and mounting layout of the RX and Gyro

Hi Z!

Roger on the 2 - 4 degree grips ... that's the way to go. You're making good progress, just take your time.

I have to check the manual ... somewhere you will get to balancing the sub rotor (and head) Before the main blades go on. I found the feathering plate to be out of balance, and the sub rotor was fine, but it's tricky. Whan you get there, let us know.

Russ
