I dont have access to a Lathe, so a buddy of mine is making about ten front axles for me.  Ten because by summer all of my RC buddies will have this bike!  We also race 1/18 scale xrays. http://www.harnoishobby.com/

Thanks for all the info guys

Alright Micro,

Now that I have looked at it, My thunder tiger front tire is smaller than the duratrax.  SO how the hell did you just stretch the tire over the knobby?

VG

PS I have a buddy making some axles for the front so you can use the thunder tiger rim if you wanted.

VG,Yep the TT front tire is smaller. I used a Nuova Faor soft compound slick. The tire was tight but stretchable over the stock knobby. The softer the compound the easier it is.
You cannot use a stock tire from a TT bike. The tires are so hard it's impossible to stretch, also that's why the tires are NG they have no traction. I also have GRP & PMT tires that could be used.
Using the TT wheel & tire IMO took away from the scale look of the bike with the smaller diameter wheel & drops the ride height.

So resently I bought a DTX 450
Like a lot of people in the hobby I'm not one to let well enough alone. So I started to check out how the bike was put together and check to see if anything could use improvement.
After looking at the rear suspension I discovered a fair amount of play in mounting hole of the rear shock down by the swing arm.
Checking it further and on closer examination I discovered that the lower part of the shock was only part of the problem, as there is some flex in the rear sub frame where it is attached to the main frame. This also contributes in part to the play at the rear part of the bike.
My question is that I'm wondering if anyone else's bike does this and if so would I think that their should be a piece made to tie the the main frame and the sub frame for the sake of rigidity.

It seems all the bikes have or will develop the play at the lower shock hole. I don't really give this a concern at the moment. I tried a brand new shock and it was the same thing.
It would be nice to see a pic of the sub frame area you're talking about having flex and contributing to the play. My bike has the alloy swing arm, not that it matters. The bike is rigid as far as I can see.

I found that my bike has a lot of play in the front above the ESC where the inner frame is mounted to the lower outer frame ? but the rear is very nice and solid or rigid with really no play at all. All my problems with the bike is the poor steering and the little head shake that is present at high speed. If I could only get it to steer better I would love it !!?? Need to run it off-road for testing but the dead of winter is here and no good dirt to play in (loose dirt that is) everything is frozen or muddy no happy medium. This bike was designed for off-road so I will tune it to do that, it runs good and is fun in the BIG smooth parking lot I run in now but I'm throwing all the weights back in the Gyro and will concentrate on the off-road part of the bike. Wish in handled like my full size KTM 400 ??? lol. Really if you spend some time tuning this bike it will dial in for any of you who feel this bike is not of good quallity, if I can make it work pretty much any one can, have patience and you will be rewarded. Read all of Micro Dans and some other guys threads and it will all come together !!!

I'll try to get a pic , but in the meantime maybe I can discribe it better. It would be better called the back half of the main frame but I call it the sub frame only because thats what its called on my 1 to 1. But till I do, I think I'd got away to at least get a little of the play out at the lower shock mount. I'll keep you posted.

Got to spend some time in a smooth parking lot today. motard set up,no weight in the gyro and F+R brakes. Boy does it stop. As for the gyro I think some where in the middle between 0 and the 5 thats stock. There's not many combos for less weight, .none /4/5. I'm goingto try lightining a set. Hey Micro Dan hows your trick light weight gyro comming??.And I know the weather is horrible every where but wait til you run on some dirt ,my face hurts from smiling.

I got the sample aluminum gyro the other day. Lookin good. It's just been so cold here..... I'm waiting for a few parts to complete my complete gyro build. The modified gyro will be tested as a complete wheel so I can just remove the axle bolts and go from a stock bike to a modified bike to feel & see the differences.
The alum gyro shaves off another 1/4 lb when no weights are used. I heard it is still very stable. But I think the bike will be quicker, respond to inputs better and reduce the beating the clutch and one way bearing take.

Why is my thottle control pulsating on and off , on and off ?? It got pretty hot !! Seems that it is back to normal, was using a 2600 3S Lipo at the time ?? balance showed that the cells were at 3.69 V ? Thermal shutdown or maybe LVC ?? Just wondering why it would do that ?

My bike hit the LVC on 2 & 3s, it cuts at about 3.1-3.2v per cell. It will go dead and then allow a low voltage throttle flow and then go dead and repeat the cycle.
At first sign of this just shut it down to keep things safe.
My stock ESC got very hot on 3s but never thermaled. Maybe if the battery lasted longer it would have.

Hey GLK

You can spend the money on the ARX if you want, I dont have one, but I dont think it will be that much better to warrant the price.  My opinion on the DX450 is it is by far the Greatest R/C Model ever, FACT!!!!!   Your initial investment is about $350, although one of my local shops is selling it for $300.  You will need to put some more money in it to get it to handle better, but some minor adjustments on the stock one will improve it too.
Even if you buy the DX and put every hop up available right now on it, you will still be well under the price of the ARX.  And I think the furure will bring many more hopups and tire choices for the DX.  Hands down I think the Dx is an excellent buy, go for it, you wont be disappointed!!

The DX is the Anderson M5, they are the same Machine.  So anything for the Anderson will work for the DX.  Anderson will have some dual sport tires available in march some time.

Since you are in Ohio I know you are fighting the snow.  I have been running mine in the parking lots, tore up the stock tire in about 6 or 7 battery runs.  The Thunder Tiger rear tires fit right on the stock rim, not a perfect fit.  The Thunder tiger tire has an extra lip, but it doesnt seem to affect it any.  You can also use a Thunder Tiger front rim with a slick or steet tire on it.  The only issue with the TT Front rim is you need to get an axle made.  The Duratrax axle has a relief in the center and thats where the TT rim sits.  The axle is .236 inches and 43 mm long with m4 threads in both ends.  I have a buddy making me some right now.   I mainly want to run the bike on dirt and jump it, but during the winter I love the supermotard running in the parking lots.  You can power slide the bile around the turns, STOCK, with a NiMh battery in it.  Got my first LiPo for it today, will turn it into an instant wheelie machine, AWSOME!!!!!  Be carefule on the LiPo's they need to have the wires coming out right, the only big flaw in the bike is the Battery box.  The regular stick batteries are a **** to get in, If you have any matched packs you soldered yourself, they dont fit.  Its a small flaw in an awsome machine.  Keep up with this thread, there is already a dude with front and rear disk brakes on his.  I havent read it all but Ive been picking through it little by little.
