On my Slayer's stock wheels, I took some 1500 grit sand paper and scuffed them up, then took Krylon Fusion (black) and sprayed the wheels. The paint is made for plastics and works great IMO. I only have a weekend on my painted wheels, but so far they've held up great.

i had a 4 wheeler, this is kinda off the subject a little, but the body was plastic and i painted it with the same black krylon fusion, rode it for two years, only touched it up twice. i love that paint it sticks good, handles gasoline, not sure about nitro, but gas did not affect it, it handled the mud rocks and other things involved with a 4wheeler. in my opinion great stuff. i even flipped it once
