New Bright crawler body modifications
I have seen a lot of nice mod's to people's bodies on their rockcrawlers. What are people using material wise to build bodies from scratch, and once built how are they mounted? Also on mounting, once stock body is cut and modified how is it re-mounted on the crawler?

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
nbcrawler ..
Good work to keep the boby on the frame. [sm=thumbup.gif]
The body of YELLOW-CRAWLER, is retained with a rubber band (original method).
Two small hooks at each end, and the body is quickly removed.[8D]
I was tired, always remove the screws, so I improvised this method ..

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
I make mounting plates & use velcro to mount my bodies...the type with the adhesive on the back.
I use a dremel tool & cutting wheels and razor knife to cut bodies.

A razor seems like it would be too hard to make precise cuts, what attachment to put into the dremel nbcrawler? Thanks for the advice

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Got my first cuts made so my rear tires no longer rub until I get more flex from my rear suspension. It is a bit nerve racking cutting into the only body I have for my 1/10 scale crawler[X(] But I have a lot of good pictures and help, thanks guys!

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Here are some new pics from my Thanksgiving vacation. I trimmed rear fender flares on my 1/10 scale NB crawler because tires were rubbing on the fenders when I got good articulation. I have also removed return center spring on servo. Have one gear for 4 th mod currently, and am anxiously awating the arrival of a pair of gears from a new very good friend! Wish I had my 4 th gear mod done before I had tried all of those rocks on vacation... Possibly next year

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Once I got back home, I was greeted by snow. So I took out both my 1/10 scale and my 1/6 scale NB crawlers. Was too cold while driving the big one but got pics of the 1/10 scale crawler once it warmed up a little. The cold sure drains my batteries nice and fast
My latest flea market find consists of an Interactive Concepts snowmobile. It is very large and is 27mhz butIhave no way of testing it. Will try to get pics up soon, any ideas out their about testing or trying to obtain a transmitter for it?Could swap out to HG electronics if I wanted to go the long run.

It has cut rear tires, 3 coils cut off each suspension spring, trimmed rear fender flaresand a 4 th gear mod installed in the rear axle. Will do work on the front axle 4 th gear mod tomorrow or next day after a small test with new rear gearing. I have one person to thank, you know who you areYour a god amoung men. Thanks again

darksideofasaucerfulofsecrets ..
Very good job on the installation of your 4 th gear .. [X(][X(]
Your crawler should be very powerful ..
You'll have lots of fun doing climbing on the rock ..
Your job is to follow.
Thank for the pics.[sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
On the 4 th gear mod subject, I had to cut a lot out of the top half of the rear axle, will I be able to take out enough from the top half of the front axle to get 4 th gear mod to fit while still having stock placment of stock servo? Thanks for the comments Texx and thanks much to Joe for all the knowledge and assistance
Of course the day I get my 4 th gear mod into my rear axle and plan on a test run it has to snow and snow and SNOW! Wish I could find a 9.6 volt softpack charger so I could get my InterActive snowmobile tested[]
Let me know thoughts/experience with front axle 4 th gear mod. Is anything different needed, do I need to take off servo in order to do mod?

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
You cut the plastic so that the lid of your differential closes well .. and your 4th gear works well ..
No problem our stock servo, it can remain in place without problems.
You can cover the motor and the 4 th gear, with plastic, if you wish ..[8D]

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Hey Dark, gear mod is looking good.[sm=thumbup.gif].
The installation of 4th gear in front axle will not affect your stock servo.
After your gears are installed...test fit top axle half to see what needs to be cut away to clear motor...also check for gear clearance & binding.....cut a little at a time.
I cut too much on my first one & had to add plastic.[]
BTW.... those gears with stock 10t pinions will have a ratio of 199 to 1

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Update on my 4 th gear mod, undertook the front axle today. Cutting went alot faster on this axle because Iknew what to cut. Had to trim a lot of extra plastic that was in the way on both top and bottom half of front and rear axles. The front axle was a snug fit against the steering servo but it was not hard to fit.

RE: New Bright crawler body modifications
Since Imade the poor decision to undertake the second axle 4 th gear mod at night and it was far too cold to test it out, so I instead decided to put together shells to go over the newly cut holes in the top half of the axles.I was worried about dirt, dust and possibly water getting into axles so I created these shells The shellsare made of a clear plastic body liner from a parts r/c I got at the flea market. Boxes fit over new motor mounts and 4 th gear nicely but still leave a little bit of room for hot air to escape. The one on the front axle that fits up against steering servo turned out very good.
