That's what I thought.

Do you remove the balsa after the first half of the mold is done or do you just leave them in place throughout the mold-making process?

Status: offline 		Yes, I left them in place during the molding process. Its also a good indicator where to cut the flange.

Can you tell me witch kind of fiber glass did you use to construct you P38? How many lay ups?

2 - layers of 3 oz,
3 - layers of 9oz
3 - layers of 18 oz
1 - more 9 oz layer for smooth handling

all west system epoxy

my freind and I did the layup in about 15 hour... non stop..... YIKES! that is for one side only, another 15 on the other side DOUBLE YIKES.....

It took me a week to make the splitter board..... It looked like the maze...

Do I sleep, sometimes

That's a good idea about an easy way to add a lip to the edge of the flange. I'll try it.

Non-stop? Is that one layer on top of the other without stopping or did you wait for each layer to tack up before continuing? I'd think there'd be a lot of heat build-up with all that resin if this is a continuous lay-up.

I know what you mean about lack of sleep. Sure is nice once it's all done, though, huh?

Status: offline 		There is definitely heat build up, but I don't think it causes any problems. Plus I wanted to finish in one day instead of waiting and additional 2-3 hours for each layer to get tacky.

As long as it didn't crack and you could still get the plug out of the mold (which you obviously did) then I guess there isn't a problem.

I just saw the pics you posted today on your site of the P-38 on it's feet. Very cool.
