Ace,

I have a couple of plans for WWI planes. Was there one that you had in mind or will any one that I have do? What format do you like? I do not think that anyone is flying bird from the WWI era but do not let that stop you from starting something new.

Bob

There was quite a bit of traffic on WWI Combat about a year ago, but it seems to have fizzled out. There's a LOT of info on the subject here:

Though that thread was probably more hot air then substance, Ed Kettler did in fact build a SE5 for WWI combat. He even wrote an article about the construction of the plane. You can find it on my web site TexasCombat in the workshop section.

Our club (www.charlescountyrc.org) and one down the road a bit (www.paxaero.com) have begun a WWI combat event. One of our club members designed some (7) WWI profile planes and the rules state how they will be built and what engine and so forth. Our first "combat" sortee is rapidly approaching and should be fun. Take a look at the web sites for some ideas. i'll post a picture of some of the planes shortly.

Here are 6 of the planes lined up. 3 SE5's, one Fultz (sp?) One Fokker F7 and 1 albatros. These planes fly great on a .25. Lots of fun.

I would consider changing the paint schemes on the SE5's to vary them up abit. Its common to take your eyes briefly off your plane in combat to search for targets, and I bet somebody reacquires the wrong one and flys theres into the ground.

These are very cool though, look forward to a full report and pictures of the contest. Good Luck!

I have no idea of the actual scale but the wingspan is 38 inches on the Fokker D7. The wingspan on the Nieuport is slightly greater due to extended wing tips. Did you get a chance to read the "rules" from the Charlescountyrc.org page?

The CCRCC WWI combat planes are about 1/8 scale. I am building a Spad VII now and having a ball. Should have it in the air next week. I understand a Fokker DR1 has been added. Anyone know when the plans will be available?

BTW, At this scale, a Handley page bomber would still have about a 12.5' wingspan! Is anyone in CCRC building one of those?

I know a bomber is in the works but I don't know the size. I heard it would be a twin .40.

I have the Fokker D7 flying and a Nieuport 28 almost ready to cover. These planes fly great and you can slow them down to almost walking speed for landing. not to mention the TT .25 is real easy on fuel. The Nieuport will have the OS .25.
