Chatty

I had those lead strips in my kit and fitted them by, as you say, opening the root at the leading edge and running a slurry of epoxy and micro balloons in there and then squashing the lead in place.

As for neutral position, from memory, the trailing edge of stab is where the stab cover/fuselage joint is.

Rgds
Mark

Having survived the move from Australia back to UK I am back at work on my SkyGate Hawk (picked up an Olympus at JP for power !) Really want to do the Red Arrows scheme again) . Anyone know who, if anyone, produces a Red Arrows centreline smoke tank for this model.

I have the B Ae drawings but its quite a complex shape.

Details 4 scale do just the gun pod which is quite different.

Regards,

David.

Hi David

Was nice talking to you at JP, even I bought the oly for the hawk and would be painting it in the red arrows scheme. Skygate had developed the centreline tank if I am not mistaken, will check with comp ARF if they are going to produce one, as even I am looking for one.

Chatty.

David,

Somewhere you mentioned the vortex generators were at the wrong angle on the kit, and should be set at 15 degrees.

The kit already has the impressions build in, to place the vortex generators, how do you get rid of moulded impressions, and from where do you measure the angle of 15 degrees.

Thanks
Chatty.

Hi Chatty, Great to meet you guys too, take it you had a good time at JP. That Olympus deal was fantastic.

Please do advise me if there will be a centerline tank for the SkyGate Hawk it will save me building one !!

The vortex generators on the SG Hawk wing are at the wrong angle and in the wrong location according to the BAe drawings.

I simply sanded off the markings with 320 paper (sprayed over them with white primer) and made new VGs to the correct shape and angle, with the side plate also made from thin glass board and glued alongside the VGs. Look perfect.

I measured the angle from the drawings at 15 degree relative to a/c C/l but I believe Tobba or Remco measured them at 13 degrees. Exact angle is not THAT important but they DO seem to work on my AW Hawks which are very docile near the normal and accelerated stall, so even at our Reynolds numbers they seem to work !

Let me have your address and I will copy the BAe wing drawing for you and you can then get the correct angle and location.

regards,

David.

David,

The factory intention is to produce one. I can't give timescales but sooner rather than later is the plan.

Mark

Hi David,

Sanding down the wing with 320 grit and then filling, priming, sanding again seems like a fair bit of work. Wish I had the extra time to build the hawk super scale like you are doing, unfortunately with all the flying I am hardly home few days in a month. Will have to take a call on redoing  the VG, if I could manage to squeeze out more time. If I place the VGs in their current position will it have an adverse affect on stall speed.
The kit includes the wing fence which I think is for the Swiss hawk, is this the same for the red arrows. Shape and position.

Regards
Chatty.

Seeing as this forum is loosing posted images (totally unacceptable in my eyes) most of the pictures missing on here can be found on my website gallery, unfortunately they are not in any particular order but nonetheless they are still available to view....

http://www.gbr-jet.com/gallery# - in gallery click on Skygate Hawk Photos

I will also shortly add a link to my Photobucket account where all the images in high res will be available to view.
