summerwind -> plans for Phil Kraft's FleaFli ? Added Question (11/3/2009 10:59 PM)

i built the +10 version back in the late 60's.....would love to find another kit, but i would also love to find the plans to the FleaFli in it's original size.
with todays small servos,Rx's and whatnot it would be easy to equip this little bird that packs a punch in performance.

my +10 version was a tough one to fit the Royal radio i had back then.

anyone know where the plans are these days?

I just loved reading that article. Pity there isnt a forum just for posts like that.
Plil Kraft is still a God to me. His planes just evoke every thing good about radio modeling.

Phil came to our club field which was Balico, CA back in 69', and brought the FleaFli............even Dad was amazed at the performance of this little Jewel.

thx so much for all the info and the plan.
i just won a brand new Super Tigre .23 which is what i had in my +10 version.........this one with the smaller servos and overall lighter radio package ought to be a little rocket.

Jeff,

Can you send me a copy as well. My dad flew one years ago and would love to have the plans to build another.

You were so lucky to have met him AND seen him fly that Gem.
Mind you, all his planes had that certain some thing. The Quickfly series of pattern ships were all inspiring.

yes they were.
Dad built his first Quickfli from the top flite kit, and powered it with a Webra 61 Blackhead.
spent 9 months building and finishing it. finish was hand rubbed Aero Gloss and looked like glass.
first 2 flights went absolutely perfect.................Dad then sat out with the guys and had a couple beers...........3rd flight was just as nice as the first 2, and then it happened..........a low inverted pass and the famous pull up which of course rekitted the Fli to bits........all that was recognizeable was the barn door ailerons.
never ever again did Dad have a beer in between flights.
when my FleaFli took to the air it inspired him to build another one[:)]

Hmmm . . NO ALCOHOL while flying OR building ! . . how many have had a couple of 'drinks' while building, and built two Left Hand parts ?? . . or fitted the stab upside down on an ARF ?? [:@]

Cheers, JB

yeah right......Dad passed away in '92 at the age of 58.
after that incident he'd never had an issue with just a couple beers at our Sunday gatherings.............it was just an unfortunate mistake of the thumbs.
flying pattern was something that he made look so easy for the years before.

but, to answer your theory of 2 lefts or upside down stabs, i and Dad have never done anything like that................of course since we were avid competition Free Flighters, we built with ultimate precision.................in other words, check and double check and check again was a basis for all our work.............alcohol or no alcohol.

summerwind -> RE: plans for Phil Kraft's FleaFli ? Added Question (11/6/2009 1:22 AM)

hey guys,
i use Futaba 12Z radio for all my flying.
servos are a broad choice these days compared to what was around back in the 60-70's............
do you guys think this servo would be OK all around.....(S3102)

AllTheGoodNamesAreTaken -> RE: plans for Phil Kraft's FleaFli ? Added Question (11/6/2009 5:13 AM)

Those would be more than enough. But the price of those servos is steep. The Hitec HS-81 has been around for a long time and has proven itself to be reliable and would also be plenty of servo for a plane that size. And they're less than half the price of the Futaba's.

summerwind -> RE: plans for Phil Kraft's FleaFli ? Added Question (11/6/2009 5:30 AM)

thx Jeff,

i don't know why i didn't consider those.
i've used Hitec HS65's in small 3D planes and know their quality.
thx again for pointing me in the right direction.
