I finally got the 2.7M sailplane I have been wanting.
It was an RTC. I am almost done covering her.
It won't be long until the Radio gear goes in.
I am wondering how to set up a four servo wing,
(thats Flaps and Aileron) to my Futaba 8U AND allow
the MOTOR to run on the Left THROTTLE stick. In other
words, I already can set up a PRESET amount of
Dn Flps and Up AIL with the AIRBRAKE switch. What
I am asking is: How can I set up PROPORTIONAL CROW
on the THR stick OR THE channel 8 KNOB?
Is any of this possible?
Anyone?

Set up on the knob is very clumsy way to control crow. I would put that on the throttle stick. Use the offset mix on channel 8 to control motor on/off and use the trainer sw(F, I think) to turn on an doff the offset to turn on the motor. You will not need the proportional throttle, all you will need is on/off. Save the throttle stick for the landing crow. Do you have a 8U or 8USuper?

Have to agree with Brian for placing the throttle control on a switch. I have an 8UAPS, and this is what I do.

This leaves the throttle stick open for controlling the "crow" function.

The other option is to play around with all kinda of mixing, but if you power up with crow active, there could be some interesting flight habits.

Guys and gals(Thanks Annmarie!)
I was hoping to have someone say,
'ya can do dat!' But I get again what
I already know. Limited Motor Run, (LMR)
is where we set the ESC to the Trainer
sw to call on full at flip up. No problem.
Then of course, Crow would be available
on the THR stick. No Problem.
I want BOTH!
It would be even COOLER if I could
SWitch the THR stick from MOTOR to:
CROW! ONe click and we're there!
Annmarie's idea of channel 6 or 8 knob
would of course WORK with mixing, but
knobby speed control is indeed clumsey!
Does anyone have another IDEA?
Do check back cause I will figure it out
and let ya'll know!

Best solution is the 9C the slider on the side is great for that, sure Annmarie want you to buy that. But sticking with the 8U(s), you can program the upper half (away from you) of the throttle stick to run the motor, and the lower half to operate the CROW. This case you can have both at the same stick, just you have to know where the center is. Otherwise you will be going into crow or throttle at the wrong time.

I am dealing with the same probelm but mine was the throttle and spoiler on a power glider(Super Dimona). I have the spoiler on the trainer switch to pulse it up and side, not the best way. I can not set the glide path this way. I also try to put the mixing on the three position switch, half spoiler and full. This way at least I can do touch and go on the runway.

Now we're kinda getting somewhere!
Half stick (THR) breaks from Throttle to CROW! COOL!
But: Wouldn't it be simply AWESOME to hit a Switch, say
the C sw (Airbrake) and with this three position sw,
cut over from throttle to crow! Motor out, crow on!
I appreciate your advise, I'd love to have the 9C but
I love my 8U super! Got 15 models in her! 4 of which
are Heli's! Got one slot left!
The 8Usuper is one fabulous Radio.

Byron,

Why don't you get a 9Z campac and you can get 41 models.

I have also been through this same issue. I have a large electric glider with flaps and ailerons. Initially, I setup the glider with crow and throttle control on the throttle stick and I setup a switch that determines which function is active and which one is off. So, in one position I had the throttle set off and crow control on the throttle stick, flip to the other position and I had crow disabled and throttle on the throttle stick. You can do this no problem with a 9z and it works fine. Although, I had situations where I wanted to drop the flaps and had the switch in the wrong position so I got throttle. No real harm when this happens, you just go around.

For me a better way to do it was to leave the crow function on the throttle stick and move the throttle function to the left slider. This has become the best setup for me. Now, I have access to throttle and crow without flipping any switches. Throttle on the left slider actually feels really natural after you make a couple of flights. I hand launch my plane with my right hand and have no trouble using the left slider to apply throttle.

I am not really familiar with the 8 channel radio, so I don't know whether you have a slider or not. The 9z is a nice radio. I got mine used a couple years ago and you can find some good prices on these if you look around. The 9c would also probably do what you want.

I have the 9Z campac and also a 8 models clonepak. I did not notice the boot time differance between the two. They are slow to boot either case. I think the radio is ready to go about 3 second after you flip the switch.
