Again, just another awesome flight, T!   Sounds like a broken record, but it's true.   Tell me, did you go to the TORCHS Helicopter Blowout over the weekend?  Just wondering since it was in Orlando ...

I got bling on my baby. KDE antirotation and rudder servo seat.
Ordered a white landing gear from a local supplier to get me by but those gorilla gear skids look the business. I would like to add some colour to the tail as I have Kurtis Youngblood tail blades which are as good as black.
Michael
P.S. I must say that I rate the align gyro much higher than the futaba, I am soooo impressed.

The TP pack is a mere $67.99.    I just did a couple of break-ins and WoW.  lots of power here.   The pack wasnt even warm after a 2 minute break-in.  cool as a cucumber.

I was going to get the exact same one you had Scott, but they are out of stock.   but the dragon one looks freaking SWEET!

It has been a long time coming, but the build started today!

Here are some pictures...

I made a mistake during servo install... I installed the Pitch and Aileron servos wrong... fixed that quick.   The wiring of the servos is for the most part inside the frame as is the ESC wiring. if I took the tail servo mount off I could run the gyro wires on the inside for the most part.   Everyone is right, the hardest thing about this build is the wiring.  I must have spent four hours trying different things.  Finally I gave up and did it pretty much the way Finless did it - as you can see, I even "jacked-up" the receiver with styrofoam so the the antennae could protrude from the frame.  On the side that I didn't take a picture of, the satellite receiver is mounted in the vertical plane with double sided foam tape.   I even managed to get an external power connector installed.   That's going to make finishing the helicopter much easier because pulling out the receiver is a major PITA - I did it way too many times today!

I didn't have much problem mounting the elevator servo according to manual.  I did as T suggested and just ran the 1.5 mm allen wrench through the opposite hole.  It worked great.  Thanks, T!

All the electronics work, so really all that I need to do Sunday is install the main gear, set the pinion and mesh (pinion is on, already, but it will need adjusting.  I also need to make up the three collective links and install.  After that, it's all setup.   Dunno when maiden will happen... maybe Monday if the weather is good.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Scott

Looking good Scott.   Cant wait to see how it looks when its finished.

I set my main gear/pinion mesh before installing the servos.  It will be difficult to adjust the mesh once the servos are installed.  You'll see what mean later in the build.   the front servos block the screws to adjust the mesh.

The build is done.   I've got to work tonight, so maiden will be tomorrow, weather permitting.   I didn't have any problems setting the pinion or mesh, I suppose I'm used to bad problems in that regard with the stock motor mount on the Gaui 550.    I do see what you mean, though.  I used ball ended wrenches to tighten the motor bolts.  For the pinion, I used a standard Align allen driver.  I had to eyeball the swash leveling a standard T-Rex 450 swashplate tool does not work on the Pro.  I should have read more about that, so a T-Rex 450 pro leveler is on order.  Grips are flipped, tail is at 8 degrees sharp (man, that's not easy) at center.   Pitch is at +-12 degrees, so it's all set.  I'll set pitch, hold and throttle curves tomorrow prior to maiden.   The stock align gyro is really easy to setup!  So, tomorrow is maiden.

Scott

Thanks, T.   Man, you guys are right... parts of the helicopter are very easy to build, but parts are a royal pain.  Adjusting the tail was not easy by any stretch.  I had to remove the bottom tail servo mount screws so the mount would tilt in order to get the link on and off.  But then turning the ball link... man I thought more than once I would bend the control rod.  Luckily, I didn't.  But I did have to CA one of the screws in because it stripped the plastic in the tray.

On the "I dunno if it's a plus" side, nearly everything was threadlocked.   That included the frame screws.   So, as you know, sanding the frame is a necessity, so I had to take all that apart, but it's cool.  At least I know the frame is sanded.   On the negative side, in removing one of the screws for the motor mount, I stripped the hex head, so I had to grind that out - the standard cut a groove in the head didn't work at all.  Luckily, before Christmas I picked up a complete set of grinder bits at over half off in a local store, so that was very cool, and useful.

I'm bummed that the standard 450 (which I got for the BH500 swash) leveler didn't work so I'm going to have to wait until at least Wednesday to make certain the head is set up right.  I think I'm going to have to shorten some of the links because the standard size seems a bit long based on how the washout arms are just slightly off level.  I compensated for that by lowering the subtrims on the cyclic servos... not cool, I know, so I'll probably go in a redo subtrims tomorrow before maiden and shorten the links.

Maiden tomorrow is in question because it's supposed to snow.  Today would have been perfect, but so it goes.

Scott

Anyone maiden a Pro lately?

I put 5 more packs on my Pro today.   My poor 500 esp is getting very jealous as there's a new love interest.    Since the Pro been airborne the 500 has not seen any fly time.   She'll probably get some attention when the new year comes.

I always take all three heli's when I go to the flying field, I fly the 450 SE first for a warm up then I give the pro it's time in the air then I fly the 500 and that is when I really through it around. I do this maybe 2 or three times and then spend the rest of the day charging. it normally takes about 2 hours if I am alone or three if I fly with a mate. While you are flying the others the motor has time to cool down so it makes good sense.
Happy new year guys for Friday.
