Hey guys - check this out. Castle has come out with a short course version of their sidewinder brushless motor and speed control. The combo is $119 which is a nice deal!

Castle Product Page:

http://www.castlecreations.com/products/sidewinder_sct.html

The motor is a 3800kv motor. I don't think there is a direct conversion from Kv to turns (from what I've read these are two totally different ways of rating a motor - turns refers to construction while Kv refers to RPM per Volt applied) so the problem would be comparing the speed of this motor against other brushless setups that people might want to run.

I love the idea of brushless, but still love the idea of a spec class where everyone pretty much has the same power, so I think the tough part is figuring out how all of the brushless systems compare with each other.

Hey fellas,  I checked out the track on  youtube and seen some races and I have to say its a pretty sweet track to have in the back yard.  I just recently finished my track in the back yard myself in Chesterfield, VA (Pictures soon) and me and my buddy race the 1/16th E-Revos.  Our motors are stock, but we do have the castle creation ESC.  I was wondering if theres anybody out in Powhatan that has E-Revos / Slashes that they want to race at my track or if we could come out there and race at Mayway.

Dennis-

It looks like you may be opening up a 4x4 class next year for the slashes. I am about to make a purchase of one of these and I am trying to decide which would be a better choice to see more track time. Will you race 2wd more?

Thanks!

Brushless motor research update:

While there's no exact turn to Kv comparison, I've been looking at multiple comparison charts, including Novak's comparison chart http://teamnovak.com/products/brushl...spec_chart.htm

It appears that the Castle Sidewinder SCT setup at 3800Kv would be more comparable to a motor in the 10 - 13.5 turn range. That means this setup is not going to be comparable (would be much faster) to the Novak Brushless 17.5 turn motor, which seems to be a pretty close match to the stock Titan brushed motor. It could be a great setup for bashing and a modified class, but not a good spec motor.

Funny you should ask. This track started out as primarily 1/8 nitro buggy, so a number of us still have them - a few guys have the Mugen buggies and I have a Losi 8. I think I speak for the other buggy guys when I say that we love to run the buggies too, when there are at least a few other buggies at the track!

The Slash has attracted more new racers I think due to the significantly lower price point, durability, simplicity, and scale looks/driving characteristics. You should consider trying a Slash too - they're incredibly addictive, despite the fact that they are much slower in stock form (but the mod class won't be much slower - that's for sure).

Dennis is the track owner and is really cool for an old guy. Give him a call to discuss the possibility of running your buggy at the track! 804-598-7331

We are literally a couple days old of playing with these things so there is no doubt that the competition level will be low!  It should be fun though.
